Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by brianf31, Aug 15, 2017.

  1. lots of help and pointers on the web. I sent a link to Mike in Mass last week as he is learning his way around TIG currently but cannot recall what it was at the moment:rolleyes:

Man, just went through your whole build, pretty impressive. I'm going to try and get a hold of an old coupe or sedan. I want one mostly complete though, fab and body work is getting tuffer to do for me. Great job, wish my Dad had been into cars.

I agree. What a cool back story and car project.

I tried my hand at hammerforming a 16 gauge firewall recess closeout. The 3 lb hammer moved the flange with ease.

I'm finally getting around to floor panel work. I made 16 gage C-channels to be used as toe board, floor pan and trans tunnel supports. The frame bracing is flush with the top of the rail and provides adequate support for the 20 gage pans. I'll rivet the pans in place.

Tonight's quick task was the trans tunnel pattern. It will be fun to bend on the pan brake.

Harbor Freight bead roller is better than no bead roller.

I didn't feel like running to my buddy's shop to use the press brake. I hammer formed it over a piece of heavy angle iron. Now to TIG the corners.

I finally took the body off to tie up a few loose ends on the frame. Then it was on to paint and chassis assembly.

It's funny how your motivation picks up once you see some shiny paint.

Firewall painted and other body work in progress. 20180915_221822.jpg

I had family over Sunday so while I had the extra help, we mounted the body.

I rolled the coupe outside the shop for the first time in 18 years.

The kid approves. Amazingly, he's helping more than usual now that there's light at the end of the tunnel:)

Well I busted tail for over a year trying to get ready for the local HAMB Run What Ya Brung. I needed another 3-4 weeks to have her running. I loaded it up and went anyway. coupe on trailer.jpg

I managed to get the floor primed, sealed and riveted in before I went to the strip.
