Picked this up a couple of months ago. Very tidy coupe, at least there will be no rust repairs.

Drive and enjoy, or do you have more plans.? Personally I think drive and enjoy is the best option in the short term .

Maybe just an altitude adjustment? Wheels/tires? De bumper and de-spare? Japan Coupe.jpg

looks nice... wrap a magnet in cloth and check the right rear quarter patch... some of the old guys were real good at bodywork... that is where the rear window drain dumped its catch...

Yeah, when my coupe got blasted, there was some very imaginative repairs……. A6866C17-A8A4-4C90-B772-1B3389B7374F.jpeg

i jokingly refer to those repairs as "a farmer's restoration"... old coot did his best with what he had...
    drove it in every parade...

Get a 6:1 head and a Mitchell overdrive, tune up the brakes and drive it!

Thanks for the comments and cool pictures.
So the plan originally was to run it as is, but with different wheels etc..just simple stuff to get started. There are some great events held by the VHRA in the UK so wanted to get to next years events, so didnt want to get in too deep with a project straight away.
Sometimes things get out of hand though....
First problem i found was the block is cracked, I didnt notice when i looked at the car, although i still would have bought it but would have had a bit of bargaining power, but im still happy. Parts in the UK are not cheap so finding another engine whilst possible, wouldn't be particularly cheap, so a plan was beginning to hatch.

The pictures make the paint look good but its not really been done very well with all the prep sanding marks visible under the paint, but as far i can tell it is very solid and straight.

This will be a build done at home with only basic tools, with
not alot of budget and with kids helping so nothing too exciting, but hope you enjoy it.

    I couldnt resist...

    The block was cracked.
So you cut the roof off.
    Makes sense to me. :D

I removed a small section of the outer skin on the A and B posts so i could fully weld the inner structure of the posts, then put the outer skin back on. I won't bore you all with 100's of photos of the chop as im sure you've seen enough pictures of models As getting chopped over the years.

@v8coupe Wow your cuts were awesome they way it all lined up. Did you do that staggered cut to reduce the need for extra vertical cuts behind the rear side windows or just to maximise the rear window size? Nice chop on removing part of the A and B pillars to fully weld the internal structue, dont always see that done in the threads I've looked at.

@Stogy yeah that coupe is pretty close to me ;)

Thanks, it may ruffle a few feathers but it will have a sbc with a muncie and 9". A cool flathead would be nice but for what i would want from one it would be way too rich for me.

    Il do my best!
