Recently picked this car up. Might a paid a bit too much for it but hey it's my dream right!?! And now it's time to start with the lil stuff. Car has a long history of being a rod. I have pictures of it almost 30+yrs ago. As a roadster no less! Previous owners pieced a top back on. Not quite the right way but hey it's there. Roofs filled and the trunk is filled also. But for a 86 yr old car it's not horrible. Let me know what ya all think. Basics need done. Wiring for basic functions. Lights etc. But it does run and drive! 2.0 Ford pinto with auto. Got plenty there to work with. See if the trunk is a lid thats filled or just some sheetmetal, would be cool to open it back up. The grill is pretty high, can it be sectioned or lowered to get the hood line correct? If it runs and drives, go have fun this summer.
if you don't like the quarter windows, you might add some length by using extra door uprights as raw material... should work ok up front, the back may need the uprights from the rear edge of a tudor or a fordor quarter window, they may have a little curve...
The lid is a flat piece. I crawled in and took a look. The lower part of the rain rail is gone. But the upper pieces are still intact. I have thought of piecing back together. The hood is actually someone's homemade piece. It's by far not a factory hood Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The more I look at the roof. Included in the deal I got all the windshield parts to make it a roadster. My just take it all off and go open top Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Figured the hood was off something else, it works for now, just going uphill. Drive it a bit, it'll tell you if you need suspension etc work. Once you tear it apart itll be down for a while.
I bought the back half of a '30 tudor, buddy, cancer survivor, has spoken for the beltline down... tub. I will have from b pillar to b pillar from the beltline up... does that make a difference as you could down size the 3 panels ? let me know...
Every time I think I paid too much I realize that it we try to save pennies going in then spend thousands on the other end. Joe
Hey sloppy jalopies. Send me some pics of the panels please? Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I was told the grille is a 34 Ford. But after seeing some Fords I'm not sold on the 34 Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Factory 31 frame from what I can tell. Appears to have a steering box swap. I'll snap more pics of it tonight Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Photos of the front portion of the frame and steering gear. I'm really thinking of new rails or tearing these back down and z the rear section to stance the car. Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
IMO... I see a bunch of things welded to your chassis... most of them won't line up with a rebuild... I would start over with another A frame, and "z" it... I would look closely at a '28 to '32 truck frames, can be bought cheap, thicker steel, plenty of meat to "z" and or "c" the rear of the frame for axle clearance... they are a little more than 1" taller than the A car frame...
Has anyone used speedways rail kits? I have a very rowdy small block with a 6sp that's begging for a chance is the car. But my other side is saying run a 4cyl Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
IMO... run the gas guzzler... while we can... ten years from now they may throw rocks at anyone running a V8... change over to the banger later if you have to...
Good bones turn it into your own. I look at all the rods at the shows / Events and see some amazing rods from crazy innovations to clean simplicity. Make it your own and enjoy the journey. Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'd be pulling the whole thing apart and build it they way you want. If you convince your self you just need to fix a piece here or there you'l just add to the problems. that is exactly the philosophy that got it to where it is right now. You've got some great sheetmetal, looks like a good frame, some driveline bits and pieces to work with. Blow it apart, take a few years and build yourself a killer hot rod.
Buddy built a hardwood buck and hammerforms these ... About 1.25" wide and 31" long rails with about a 1/2" bow Door tops or door caps whatever you call them, for model A coupester doors - will fit A tudor and coupe doors, Gives more of a roadster look to what is usually the ugliest part of a coupester conversion... Order [2.5]... use the extra chunk to run on top of the beltline at the quarters to match the door tops... Called him, he will hammer out a pair if any of you guys need them... ........... $25.oo each plus shipping.......from Maine. . inside edge and top... outside edge and top... back side
I would chop about 3 inches out of the top from under the rear quarter windows or make them a little bigger it looks a little goofy with the space under them and try to find a set of door tops. Maybe make it a lift off hardtop? I dont really care for the grill but it could be made to look a ton better just by lowering it an inch or two.
