Finally going to start posting after lurking for a while.

Background. - getting the ball rollin on 29 sport coupe (keeping doors and windshield frame) - was rough in pieces project

Chopped 5 inches - going with flathead and truck 3 speed. Using boxed a frame and dropped axle. It will be channeled as well. Split wishbones, Juice brakes and 48-56 ford pass car rear. Running 35 wire wheels and pie crust drag radials out back. Most parts I had lying around and trying to use.

Here was car mocked up last year with no drop axle.

    .....
Had another child and things went on hold til now. It’s time to get this car rolling!

Initially was going I use car trans 3 speed - had two lying around but found pedals gonna be tight.

Pedals will have to be modified. From 48-51 ford f1 pickup. Going to use the trans crossmember and truck top shift trans open drive.

love the down and dirty starting bodies... all I ever do... but your big truck speedo is tough to find a replacement for... but the deluxe cluster will let you use '70 to '75 ford truck speedos... DSCN1297.JPG DSCN1293.JPG DSCN1321.JPG DSCN1320.JPG

Nice! Really wish I had late 40s gmc or the round Chrysler ones from the 50s. I am going sticking with 6 volt and wanted to keep it “ford” as I have enough cobbled projects around. I did look at the deluxe but the bezels aren’t cheap.

Channeled and kicked in the front? You arent going to have much radiator height available. What are you going to do there?

My sport coupe project. Good start, but building a garage slowed things down. DSC01430.JPG

Point brought up by my friend. Radiator should be top of cowl height or close right? I’m not running a hood.-And have thought about it as it’s coming soon. I’d like ideas on how to lower it and run the hoses. Not really sure how yet.

I dig it. Like the wide 5. Were your doors and windshield cut?

Cut but not quite there yet. I will fab a header for the top of the windshield post and merge the door fronts so they look right.

Used that sawdust infused 5/4" plastic decking to make the wooden cockpit combing rail. its flexible.
left the upper hinge halves to anchor the rear view mirrors,... HIH.

Any ideas for rad mounting? Don’t really want to cut crossmember. Or run hoses underneath it. Damnit. This is my real first build with an a.

I draped it over a deck rail in the summer sun, weighted both ends...
it bowed more than enough to match the vertical change in the body...
I made templates of the horizontal surface, top edge, and cut it with a sabre saw...
marked the plastic for mounting screws though the factory holes...
the countersunk headed screws pulled it down flush with ease...
get the stuff with sawdust added so you can sand it smooth...
also check the under side, some have concave trenches to save material... NOT THOSE...
    ... HIH...

Nice work and great idea. I suppose I can dab a strip or piece for the header panel to support a visor - don’t want to weld it as I am using a 30-31 and it is hard enough to see out I feel. (Hope not). But have you tried it for door jambs?

check ebay, [yuk], I have seen flathead lower "S" hoses for stepped frames...
also 3" chopped aluminum rads for $100.00 plus shipping. bought one.
    they are tender,
The day after the elections I pick up corrugated plastic political signs along the road, trim them to be taped on both inner and outer radiator surfaces... also covered the outside of the window glass so I didn't impregnate it with grinding shavings.

I think it will work as B pillars but can be broken, use big flat washers to spread the bolt's load...
a buddy - '28-'29s uses a length of 1" x 2" rectangular tube... trims and caps the ends to match the outer roof's contour, welds it to the '30-'31's 90* bent cross piece and A pillar tops... then run '30-'31 visors... buys him a bunch of windshield hight... sorry no pix...

Yeah. Like a dumbass bought a stock one a year ago. It was a speedway or along the lines. Guess that’s my solution. I also learned why nobody uses the car three speeds. The linkage adds so much clutter. Thx for the advice. I told my wife that all next week I’m taking off and jamming on this!

I guess I missed the part about where this project is going. How about showing some pictures of cars like yours that are finished and look like what your final result will be. It is so much easier to "build the picture", as Chip Foose would say, than to stumble along in no particular direction. Just sayin'...

My sports coupe is “z’d” about 3.5” in the front, channeled about 1.5”, I bought one of those 3” chopped radiators, then docked the bottom corners, to drop an inch more, fits well[IMG]

Sorry for stealing the thread, but how much is your doors and a-pillars chopped Poh? I’d appreciate a measurement of your window openings, both in doors and windscreen.
