I'm over half way building my flathead powered RPU. As anyone who's familiar with these knows, space is at a premium, especially leg room. Anyone have any experience using either the stock riser or an alternative seat?

A's are pretty easy as far as selection goes. You can get a pair of 18" wide seats in there I think, maybe more, which opens things up quite a bit. I know a lot of late model 3rd row minivan seats find their way into A's.

Commercial truck seats might even fit. The set I've got are around 20" wide. The nice thing about them is the driver seat has sliders on it stock and the passenger seat has a latch and front hinge on it. They've got a little of that "bomber" seat look to them without the insane price tag. I think I paid like $100 for the pair.

I've got a bunch of surplus Humvee seats that would probably do the trick with some modification but I'm far away.

Most bucket seats are 21 inches wide ; by the time you put 2 in, you're better off with the middle seat out of an 80's Grand Caravan.---- 42.5 inches- perfect
Build a wood riser that's right for you,and put an access panel on the front for storage ( which is almost non-existant in an "A")

The rear seat from a jeep wrangler-CJ (?) Works great and has hinged mounts.

Is that seat in the picture out of a minivan? It looks great!

    It is indeed.
    Here's one in a '30Tudor Sedan, and another in a a "pimp" '31 coupe.
I get them for $25 bucks at a friends junk yard then have them reupholstered.

Well, you KNOW it has to be a bench. Find an old, left over leather sofa on Craigslist and buy it for a covering. The "distressed" look will kick major ass.

  8. We used an old school bus seat in a buddies 29 roadster pickup. It was channeled so no seat riser. Worked great.
