Not finding a lot of inflation on this one. Can I swap a double sump pan out for a rear sump pan without changing the pick up tube? The pan in my car has a dipstick tube welded/fabricated into the side of it and its leaking at the weld. I can repair the welds or do a quick pan swap if that all that need to be changed. Thanks
Depends on what rear sump pan you are trying to use. If the depth of the sump is the same, then you will be fine, if not, then I would say NO
Well that sucks since I don't have the pan to measure. Pan would need to be a 88 E-150 302 pan with the dip stick in the pan.
The question I guess is this then. Is the pickup tube for a 91 T-bird the same as a 88 E150? Those are the pans in question. Thanks

Thanks hotroddon. I could not find the interchange option on the pages I kept getting. Looks like I will be welding and testing the pan better this time.
I think the re-weld and test would be the easiest option. you also are guaranteed not to have fitting issues.
Some trucks and early broncos used the pan mounted dipstick , it was a casting and was riveted to the outside of the pan ,with a gasket in between. Very prone to leakage. Depending on your block year, some had a boss for a dipstick. I have a late Explorer roller 302 in my early Bronco , rear sump but weird shaped so I used a spare 302 Bronco pan , pickup tube and welded the old pan mounted dipstick holes closed and used the block mounted tube instead.
You have th get a pickup that matches the pan application. The problem isn't where the dipstick is, it's where thw sump actually is. Dual sump Mustang/T-Bird is completely different than rear sump truck pans. SPark
I am aware of what I need to do now. The pan on my car is a T-bird pan that I had to install a dipstick tub in so I could keep track of oil level. It leeks and would have gladly purchased a new E150 pan and installed it to save some time and headaches. I hope the information given to me help someone else also. Thanks again Ron for the interchange info(That one of those stupid question I was reading about yesterday that I should have looked for and found myself). Thanks
I swapped out my double hump pan for a front sump pan on my truck then used a dip stick mounted in the front timing cover. Needless to say I also changed the oil pickup tube and blocked the original oil pickup tube in the side of the block with a cut to size drill bit.
Oh Ford you kicking my butt again. Can someone tell me how many inches it is from the bottom of the block to the bottom of the oil pump? Don't want to pull the engine and I only have 7" between the bottom of the block and the cross member. I can jack up the engine a little but that's it. Could unbolt the oil pump, pull them both and re-install them both after welding.
