Looking to buy a 283/powerglide combo to put in a bone stock 1957 Chevy hardtop while I rebuild the original engine and trans. Found one on Craig's List that is from a 66 Chevy truck. Are these the same for both years? Will it bolt right in with out modification to the driveline or other mounts?

    Thanks

You will be OK on the motor mounts, the transmission may be another story, first measure the overall length, then check the transmission output shaft the '57's were coarse spline and the '66 should be fine splined so you may have to change the front yoke, late Powerglide and Turbo 350 are the same so finding one should be EZ.

  4. Don't the 57's have an adapter between the glide and the trans? If so the new glide won't bolt up. Having brain issues today.

  5. OK. The truck transmission will need to have side mounts at the bellhousing to bolt to the stock frame horns. The truck engine block will need to have mounting holes in the front for the factory front motor mounts. You may also need to modify the drive shaft length.

Be sure to get all the truck engine/transmission parts you can. The way the two transmissions down shift (kickdown) are different.
