I'm trying to ID the engine that was in my '60 El Camino, the block casting number is 3789935 which is a '61-64 283 so I know it's not the original engine. The stamping on the right front deck surface appears to be F0505D but it's pretty hard to read so it may be something slightly different. It has power pack heads and a cast iron 4bbl intake casting number 3844459 - did this ever come on 283s or is it from a 327?

Any help identifying the original spec of this engine would be appreciated.

power pack heads were used on 283s, that intake was for 327s. The engine code D is for a 2bbl (not power pack) powerglide car engine. The date code on the back of the block will tell you what year it is, look for something like E 2 1 or similar...the last digit, is the last digit of the year. If it's a 1961 then it was assembled the day I was born :)
