Got back home Wednesday night.Put the whip to the rental car.Had great time.Quick review with pics to follow. 1-BG is a great town,a place to consider moving to.Spent all day Friday at the track.Could have done without the rain. Some of the cars I came to see were covered or stashed in their trailers.Plenty others to scope out. Stormking had us over to his house for chow Thursday evening.Nice family and digs. 2-Rainy Saturday, went to Corvette Museum, enjoyed that.Headed out to Nashville around noon.Got past Nashville into torrential rain,30mph,cars off road.Got to get the hell off the highway.Quick decision to detour to Lynchburg,Tn.Home of Jack Daniels.Cool place.Picked up a bottle of special brew.Strange that it is a dry county,no drinks served and the distillery is the only place you could buy,not consume, liquor in the county. Lynchburg Bike Week was happening so that was good. 3-Blasted through Chattanooga to Knoxville. Will have to go back and check out these places but had no time then.Wanted to go to the Smokies and through Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg on route 66. Wow,was Pigeon Forge Tacky City.An assault on the senses.Ok if you have kids.Traffic was bad.Zipped through to Gatlinburg. That was better, wandered around there a bit.The Smokies reminded us of the Adirondacks.Great ride, big hills. 4-Spent a day in Ashville,NC.Really liked this place.Another nice place to move to.My wife loved the shops and I liked the local brew pubs. 5-Off to Concord,NC to see friends.A bustling area.Stayed by ZMax Dragway. 6-This trip made me wish I was born down there instead of northern NY.I kept shaking my head at all the 50's-60's cars/pickups with faded paint and no rust. So a big thumbs up to the South and the people of the South for an enjoyable trip.
Did you come by our shop in Concord, NC? The Iron Lords have their shop on church st you should have stopped by!!! Awesome!!! Jim Oddy Rules! Legend. I want one!!
Next 2 pics of the storm blowing in Sat afternoon.Pretty evil looking.Wind kicked up,temp dropped and the PA announcer said "Head for cover-take shelter". We did just that, got to the car just in time.
This all original Anglia was in our hotel parking lot. Sign in Corvette Museum parking lot. Jack Daniels Welcome center. Center of Lynchburg. My mug in the Smokies Ashville was cool
Son of a bitch.I knew you guys were there. We were zipping around all day with friends and it completly escaped me. Next time we visit you guys are on the list.
Great bunch of pictures. Thanks, and welcome to the South. Must have just missed you. We were pitted directly across from Gene Schwartz.
Planning on it.You live in a great place. Yep,stopped by and bought a t shirt.Should have introed myself but you guys had a crowd.Wrong move again.
Nice pictures bucksnort. I also enjoy it down south. I would be happy if i never saw a flake of snow agian. Those clouds do scare me though. We were running to get our car covered and awnings down. The Mallicoats who were there with their Barracuda lost the awning off their trailer. I was helping Barb Hamilton cover "o'le Blue" when i notice that the cover on our car was blowing off. It was chaos for awhile. I like going out in the morning though and not having to put on a coat. I think next year we'll fly down and rent a car to drive around with some.
Hi Wanda With you on the snow.Got a couple of shots here. First showing your gang.Did not see anybody, would have liked to introed my wife and I to you.So hard to catch everything in one day and the rain screwing things up did not help.2 days next time. Second one is a little blurry because the Brand X Mustang was the last run when the wind hit.Even moved my 250 pounds a bit. That was quite a gale that blew in.It was nothing but asses and elbows out of the stands. I can imagine you guys had quite a struggle with your covers. Our drive was 16 hours and 1000 miles so yours was a bunch longer. Cruising arond the south was terrific for us.Highly recommend it.
Well, you know,we never been there.Heard about the car shows there.Looked good on the map. It was just an onslaught of stuff in your face.Probably would have loved it 25 years ago.
Great pics! Mine weren't worth publishing. Glad that you enjoyed the South. Next trip come on over to East TN and see our pretty little town. The door's always open, and there's a rockin' chair on the front porch for y'all.
Thanks. Did not make it that far in East TN.Far as Gatlinburg down through the national park, then to Ashville. What I saw,I really liked (except Pigeon Forge ).OK,I am sure it is nice when you get off Rt. 66. Just dotes on pretty little towns and rockin' chairs.Love the hospitality.
Small world. I stayed at the Drury also. The stock Anglia is from Paducah,Ky. Been on to the owner for years to hot rod it, but it's not going to happen.
Great pics, glad you enjoyed the trip. Funny you mention Pigeon Forge being an assault on the senses, couldn't have made a better choice of words. We go out that way at least once a year but NEVER stay there, always in Gatlinburg - even when we go up for Shades and/or the Grand Run which are both in Pigeon Forge.
Think that was the first time I have seen an original Anglia. The Drury was a good place to stay.We got back from the track around 6:30 Fri eve and found out there was free grub and drinks(53 cents is almost free)but ended at 7pm.Stashed our stuff and made 3 trips to the bar and had 6 Margheritas lined up to go with the tacos. Thanks, good memories of the south. Now that I have been there I agree with you to stay in Gatlinburg. Had a pretty good burger and crab cakes in the New Orleans restaurant. Neat place.
