I'm trying to put a smaller pulley on my 250. Running into problems trying to get the belt grooves to align.

I have a 1967 and a 1976 engine, and while the water pumps appear to be the same, the snout on the 67 is about 1/4" shorter. I thought all the 250's had the same pumps. Am I wrong?

Any ideas on what pulley I need? I really don't want to change out the balancer if I don't have to, I also don't want to resort to an electric fan. Thanks for any ideas.

The mounting is the same but my old W/P catalog shows several different part numbers used. If the pump for the 76 engine allows the pulleys to line up simple go get a new 76 pump !! They are not expensive.

Thanks John, But actually seems like the older, shorter pump will line up better. I was just wondering if the 1967 style pump will work on the newer engine.

all low deck water pumps are interchangeable as far as the engine block is concerned.

yes most 194-230-250 blocks where the same...
the 292 was damn near different from the deck height to the engine mounts...but some parts still interchange
now i see your problem is you have an earlier block

now the inline 6 194-230-250 had two difference models
the ones produced in 1962-1972 and 1973-1985
so several little changes were done....but one large change done with the integrated head...
you would need to find an earlier 1962-72 i6 pully to work right.
