Got the old 235/ironglide pulled for the potential buyer. That setup is long and heavy. It was interesting. The 230 I bought to replace it is getting a valve job as we speak. Slow but sure. I've accrued the correct 63-64 throttle linkage, and correct frame and engine mounts. IF all goes well, I want it to look so original only Chevy Die-Hards will know...I know, it's overkill... 20190224_130314.jpeg 20190224_130306.jpeg

  3. Earlier glides =62-3 that were air cooled= big holes in the bell housing, DID have plugs in the spots for cooler lines..... Might investigate some more before dumpstering it ... Maybe just adding a cooler off those ports.;)

  4. Around here those last version of the 235 are worth something. The guys with the older 235 want them. I sold the 235/pg in my girls old '61 Bel Air quick for $1000 (in late 90's money). It did go to a 350 and th350 though because I already had it running in a car I was going to junk. Personally I like the sedan tops better.

Do it right with the correct paint color for a straight 6 in a 61 and you may slip it past a few die hards..

The 230 has a new oil pump, balancer, flexplate, gaskets/seals, fresh valve job/hardened seats on the head, got the bottom end painted, hopefully a test fire this weekend? 20190227_180547.jpeg 20190227_180556.jpeg 20190318_191609.jpeg 20190318_191602.jpeg 20190318_191625.jpeg

Coming along, nabbed a rare 6-cyl double water pump pulley from a local junkyard. Maybe a test-fire in the coming days... 20190323_164836.jpeg

I had a 250/th350 in a 48 fleetline. 4 bbl, duals, ran great. One of my favorite cars.

Got the carb finished, engine assembled, and test fired. Sounds awesome! No smoke, no leaks, 40 psi oil pressure idling. Time to drop it in.

Well I love the fact that you didn’t go with a V8 but stayed with the Six and you are putting this effort into a cool 4 dr platform. I just subscribed and look forward to the test drive post! Regards, Randy

  13. Things look great........ Did you/are you/have you checked about pulling the plugs in the trans if it has them, and adding a cooler?

Oh yeah, definitely pulling the plugs and routing cooler lines to my in-radiator cooler!

Engine is in, fits like a glove, seriously dropped right in. Engine/trans mounts were perfect. Issues: Column shift linkage, air cleaner hitting power brake conversion, and exhaust doesn't quite fit. Other than that, good to go! 20190511_141611.jpeg 20190512_183413.jpeg 20190512_183419.jpeg 20190512_183443.jpeg

Well, 30 days into driving the Biscayne after the later model six swap, and the worst has happened. I knew I was chancing it with an un-touched short block, the cylinder walls and bearings looked good but after about 200 miles I've either knocked the rings out of two pistons or burnt one or both or them. Smokes bad, and two of the plugs look awful. Actually still runs excellent. I don't think the old/original bottom end liked the new tight cylinder head and electronic ignition. Time to do the bottom end right, I'm guessing I'll hunt down another 230/250-6 to properly machine and rebuild and keep the one I got rolling. Been doing this a while, I should've known better...

I wondered why you called it "fresh" in your first post.

Do not think they are Chevy experts or have that much Chevy knowledge if people can be fooled by a 230/250 and think it is a 235.

Is the timing curve in that HEI proper for this engine?
