Getting ready to drop a 241 Hemi with a Turbo 350 in my 51 project. I have the Jamco power steering conversion on it already. By the looks of things most likely I will be going back to the stock manual gear box. Any other helpful tips or pictures of Mercs with Hemis?
Well he did say "turbo 350" so I'd think he has adapted a 350 trans. From the early hemi powered rigs I've been around the oil filter location may be the big issue. You may or may not have a problem there. Should be a nifty rig when it's done.
No Sir it was a coupe from day one. Power to weigh isn't a big concern, I just have to keep up with a 50 Chevy with a 216 and a 56 Plymouth with a flathead 6. Got another oil pan so I can build a rear sump.
Hot Heads is your source. Pops had a 241 in his 31' Tudor and it was a great little motor. I believe they were known for breaking valves at the stem so you might want to check into that.
Me thinks you will need another 241 in the trunk to keep up with traffic. They are pretty, but not much power.
241 is 140 HP, 51 Mercury flathead is 112. Not building a hot rod so I guess I'm not seeing any issue.
should be room....the front factory mount has been modified to fit a flathead frame mounts on earlier frames - but the 49-51 Merc does have funny water pumps....a little modification....it will be in like Flint....
Looks like you found it at a swap meet. Hopefully it's rebuilt with a decent C/R. advertised was only 7-7.1:1 & one measured out @ 6.19:1!
Speedway sells a Hurst style mount. May be I'm the only one that has had this problem. Helped a friend put a 350 turbo in his 1961 corvette with the stock front engine mount and he has a hard time with the bottom bellhousing bolts.
No matter what kind of Hemi you have, that engine will draw thousands of oooooh's and ahhhhh's when the hood's up.
