235 all the way. I have been running my 56 for 6 years now and it just hums along the highway. Parts aren't that bad to locate at least in the midwest, and the split pipe sound..... nothing like it.
250 be buzzin with the half dozen and a bit more hp then a 235 you can find them a bit more modern and they are the same size.
Keep the 235. I sold this one and miss it already... 1955 235, T5 conversion, Langdons HEI, Holley Webber progressive 2bbl, 216 chrome intake with port adapter rings, Spin on oil filter conversion, jet hot coated Fentons....came out of my 50 Chevy Pickup...
No shit, did anyone keep one because they REALLY wanted one, or just claimed to, but secretly couldn't afford a V8.
Well, believe it or not, that's why a lot of guys still ran flatheads in the '50s---they couldn't afford an OHV V8. However, if it's a simple matter of going fast and nothing to do with nostolgia, sell all of your old junk and buy a new 'vette.
I enjoy the 350 guys chiming in with their disdain over the old 6s.....makes me smile. Can't beat the good old 235 in reliability and just plain good times. I love opening the hood and the reactions I get. Headers and straight short pipes on a well built chev 6 is not for the faint of heart. I don't mind guys feeling good about their 350s one bit. Good motor.
Road Runner's truck is the bomb and if I'd have had the green for the 235 that just sold, it'd be in my '54 Chevy truck today. 235 with a T5 and a decent rear gear would be just fine with me. You can do a V8 if you want, we've got one of those as well!
