Another question for all those inliner guys on here, ive pulled a 235 and 3 speed manual from my 59 apache, purchased a 292 with no box, and a dos palmos intake manifold. I've look at ad many photos as I could see to see what looks the same, from what I can see the bell housing is the same from 235-302 as the 292 is the later engine. Would my inlet manifold fit a 302? The length between ports is no problem as the manifold bolts in singles to each port, it's the port shape I take it is different? Thanks joe
a 235 bellhousing is completely different than one for a 292. a 302 GMC doesn't share anything with a 292. If you have a 235 and a 292 in your posession, it would be pretty obvious if something is going to interchange or not.... The 292 can use the same bellhousing as a V8. If you had a '55-59 truck V8 bellhousing, then the 292 could be bolted up to the '59 3spd.
I already no the differences between the 235 and 292, have the bell housing to mount my box also to the 292. Main question was the inlet ports on the 235-292 302gmc being the same shape
The 235 & 302 have round intake ports of different diameters. The 292 has rectangular ones. About the only thing interchangeable between the 235 & 292's are the harmonic balancer and the dizzy (both require modifications) and the timing gears
An intake manifold from a 292 will not fit either a 235 or a 302. If you had a 235 manifold and spread it to fit the port locations on a 302, the ports on a 235 are still much smaller than a 302. In general you need to decide if you are going to run the 235 or the 302 or the 292 and get parts for it.
Exactly what I wanted to no! Thanks guys! As I have already got the high rise manifold on the 292, as this won't fit the 302 it looks like I'm sticking with the 292!
