Oh Paul, finally managed to get through all of this, amazing inspirational work, loads of cool 'home garage' tech, just love it... The header caps are just what Ive been looking for, and not a mill or lathe in site!

  5. Paul, you have a source for vacuum canisters for the early 324 distributors? There are NOS ones available for crazy money but who knows if the diaphragm is any good. I have a nice 324 distributor but no advance unit.

No, I use the later window cap style distributors when I use OEM.
Parts are much easier to find.

Got the thing all bolted back together and ran it around the block a few times.
Runs pretty good, lots more power off the line than the tri-power but could use a little fine tuning.

    Had my first break down,
Had just left one buddy's house and off to see another.
Car started sputtering like it was starved for gas.
Made it off the road and into a dirt parking strip in front of a landscape supply place.
Looked like a faulty electric fuel pump, had spark at the pump but no action.
Called the first buddy but he had no tow strap, called the second buddy and he had a trailer but no truck to tow with.
About then one of the guys from the landscape outfit came out and offered to trailer it for me, just needed to finish his shift and go get his trailer.
Another hour and a half and we were unloading it at my place.
Five minute exam and problem solved.
    It was a loose fuse.
One of the spring clip retainers that holds the bus fuse was bent.
I was so ready for it to be a big deal I over looked the little shit.

It's all part of the experience

Is your yard landscaped? No? Well, it's about to be haha.

My brain defaults to "big deal" so I routinely overlook the simple explanations.

Isn’t it nice to have choices? The 3x2 setup was nice, now it’s got dual quads! On that car, given the period, even a clean, detailed, factory Rochester 4 Jet would look great.
Nice work on those dual quad fuel lines!

    Yes, and thank you.
    I'm enjoying your build thread,
it's the first thing I check when I log in.

I am using Carter fuel inlet fittings to reduce the line size to 5/16ths,
the 3/8ths lines on all Edelbrocks wasn't working with the glass bowl and the rest of the line,
    plus it just looked wrong.

Had the fan set up with manual switch only,
thought I'd try a universal relay,
it came with directions but not for the one in the box.
Drew this quick sketch to help visualize

The amount of time I’ve spent in parking lots waiting for @porknbeaner to save my ass and then it turns out to be something so embarrassingly simple is not a small amount of time lol

  17. LOL its all pretty simple. We just overthink it too much.

When your brain is as small as mine is you don't waist it over thinking things. :D

Found a pair of old louvered air cleaner covers on line, with washable cotton filters under them they breath better than either of the covers I had on there, I like the style of the Stelling & Hellings and the Wolk Design lids but was having a hard time finding another of either to make a pair.
I can trade a little style for performance.. I guess..

Also had some upholstery material laying around, a couple different materials to choose from.
Decided on this tan colored stuff,
Stretched it over the panels, seat and dash.

A ride in a real hot rod roadster can be a life changing experience for a kid. It sure was for me.

I should have been paying more attention to this one, what a great car!

  29. The smile on his face Paul makes it all worth it. I'm just starting a new roadster build. Olds power of course.

I'm looking forward to working with the new gauges, the combination of air/fuel ratio and manifold vacuum should be valuable tuning tools.
now if the rain would just let up..
