Hot Rods 2013 AMBR Contenders are up on Hot Rod Magazine blog

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Jan 24, 2013.

  1. Some nice looking Hotrods there. I love how traditional seems to be the newest big thing.Even some big money guys are now into it.Its a trip how you can look at the different years of contenders and see what was the in thing at the time.

    Thanks for posting the pics.

It's great when the AMBR isn't off topic for the HAMB - some awesome looking cars.

Woodward Special, for me. But, just to show my ass, JadeIdol on the HAMB? Bleed and Ford got any input on that, or did you swipe the name to yer band? Guy has some serious cred on the HAMB, as you do, but in light of the Beyonce debacle at the inauguration, you need to clear this up quick.

Good point, but Niekamp's car was campaigned on the dry lakes. The car actually had a windshield and headlights but were removed and shown at the 60' Oakland show as a racecar. The list of mods on the Niekamp roadster is awesome. The car stands up today just as well as it did 53 years ago.

This car has headlights (giant ones at that) but no windshield... so is it a race car or intended for the street?

I just left the show..... the Mumford roadster is the only one worthy of a vote. It's the only car built to a period perfection with super rare parts.

You would think that in #911 ('32 highboy) they could've got the engine and carbs level for an AMBR contender. And that alternator that is jacked up to the sky doesn't do it for me either.

For us on the HAMB it is easy to say that but we are not the ones judging for the AMBR. By only looking at one picture of each car, I can not tell the difference between the cars to pick the winner but assuming that they are of equal quality, I would not be surprised if 901 is chosen. There must be a few street rodders left out there. ;) But I too like the T.

From these profile shots...I'm very tempted to pick the Chapman '33.

Neal.... a picture is worth a thousand words. 901 is god awful! What the hell is the void in front of the 33 style doors (also bad). Two years ago there was almost a riot when the winner was announced, Foose nearly shit himself! This thing is reminiscent in many ways. It is no bueno!

Mumford's car is in a different league (across the board) than the rest of the participants. It is no contest.

I hope there are hood sides for the Cole Wolfswinkel '32, but I'd really like to drive the Mariani '33. As a former ARDUN V8-60 owner I have to vote for the Mumford '27 as the winner. :)Bob

Thanks, Chris & Ali. See you in Victoria in July. We WILL drive the wheels off of this. That's what it was designed for.

The one you posted pics of was owned by Kurt McCormick and last I heard he sold it to someone in canada. Car has a cool story behind it. I tried to buy it on ebay about 13yrs ago.

I think I saw this one on a Tom Slick cartoon. I beleive it was being driven by a dog wearing goggles and a scarf.

Unfortunately, based on past winners, it will probably be 901 or 904. Fine cars I'm sure, but none of the cool factor and soul of Gunsaulis' or Mumford's cars.

If it's the Wacky Racers phaeton, it may be the end of the AMBR.

This car came from across the pond/down under to be there, win lose or draw I am sure that it means alot to the participants just to be entered for a chance.

I really like the 28 but the 27 is also hard to argue with.
