200r4 or 700r4

  1. Any "good" local tranny shop worth its salt can build you a 700R4 to hold that kind of power for between $600.00 and $750.00.

Been looking all over and there is no shop that would even rebuild a 700R4 for $600-$750. Cheapest I have found around here is $1850+.

    Man they seen you comin'!

You must have told them what it's for.

Just tell them to put a shift improver kit in it with the "red" friction discs and a corvette servo and you'll have enough tranny there to handle a fair amount of power.

Just be certain it's all done to a 30 spline input shaft 700R4 with at least an MD8 case.

For an engine with some power, I have always been particular about getting at-least an MD8 case, if not a K case, else I have used just the plain car case with great success. In the instance of the OP's engine, I doubt he'd need a K case, or even an MD8 case. He's going to have, what, 200hp, and a bit more than that in torque. Nowhere near a "fair amount of power". I might not even use the Corvette servo in his case.

Yes and no. The Chevy and BOP patterns are different, even in the 200R4 years, however, the 200R4 is a DUAL PATTERN case, which has BOTH the Chevy and BOP patterns on the bellhousing. It fits everything.

For what you want to do the 200 4r is the better of the two. They can also be built for some high horsepower. Grand national guys use them and build them up to handle the abuse of hard launches on a turbo motor.

Like others have said, The 2004r is a more svelte unit and fits in more places than the 700R4. They can be built to handle anything your 6 will throw at it

Wow , now that I want it the guy selling won't answer his phone. It doesn't have a torque converter with it though. Other thann a regular stall, is there anything I should look for?
