July 2015 209.JPG I get questioned about this a lot, but, usually do many more modifications at once. So this time I acquired an engine in good shape mechanically that would be a good candidate for the test. 10 to 1 compression, large valves and a respectable big car cam, breaker point ignition and 1.23 bore 2 barrel carb. C6 automatic. We installed long tube 1 7/8 headers with long mufflers from a Viper, thrashed the 3400 lb machine several times down the 1/8 mile and recorded the data. Averaged 9.6 seconds just under 70 mph. Replaced the intake and carb. with a Holley 650, no other changes, went back to the strip and averaged 8.8 seconds and 78 mph. The next test will be exhaust uncorked.

What is the CFM rating on the 2 bbl carb? Is it significantly smaller than the 650 CFM Holley?

2 barrel would be around 400cfm at 3 inches mercury. Individual bores are slightly bigger than the Holley. Holley has almost double the opening. I believe 4 barrels are tested at 1.5 inches mercury.
