I could only hope my 65 looks this good one day. Great build. Best I've seen. Great attention to detail.

To any who were following this build. Going on 19 yrs since I bought it. going on 11 yrs since I tore it apart for a resto. After spending all that time replacing floor, 427 spot welds drilled out. I had replaced it with a late model floor because that was all that was avail new. Well, after all that the new floor sheet metal was just that modern with a different stamp design and shape. I will use the original box for a matching trailer. I bought another short bed truck removed box then sold rest of truck.

Finally back on it hoping to finish truck by mid october.

This is box I am using. Hoping to bang it all straight so zero bondo will be needed.

Interior is bone stock with exception of adding a period correct Stewart Warner Tach I have kept new in box for over 40 yrs.

Since this tach was made for in dash I used a piece of pipe reducer to make a mount and bracket. Clamped it on like was done way back when with a hose clamp although I did put cork underneath clamp.

undercarriage is pretty much done. Did add a overdrive unit to the c6 to help keep RPM down while cruising @ 80 mph

    Engine compartment now 99% done.
the 427 FE is up and running.

The Rechromed mercury script covers came out great! Unfortunately Advanced plating which did them burned to the ground a couple days ago.

A few loose wires to tidy up. Stock radio has been restored but the exhaust note will by my stereo

    All glass now in

    Trim except antenna is on

Even found some date coded NOS glass

Your attention to detail shows. Very clean truck.

My cousin nabbed this '61 short unibody for a case of beer at the beginning of last summer and thrashed on it all year (with help from his dad, myself and my dad) and made it to grad in June. He too went with an FE, a 390 out of my dad's old Ranger, mated to a '68 Mustang toploader w/ Hurst shifter.
I swear he has a horseshoe rammed up somewhere though as every step of the way if he needed an item it just sort of materialized haha. "I need headers" boom, a decent set listed on local classifieds that same afternoon.

Anyway, sorry to hijack and great job on your pickup!

I feel like a Johnny-come-lately! Just found this thread and went back to the start and followed it all the way through. One word... awesome! Your attention to detail after all you’ve been through , is amazing! As has been said, it’s got to be the most perfect ‘66 Ford pickup in the world. Would love to see it in person, but I live in Oklahoma. Keep on keeping on!

Thanks for the kind words! Hoping to have box painted and on within 45 days. Just in time for the cooler AZ weather as this truck has the Factory 66 A/C. 66 MPH with the windows down and vent windows pointed backwards . .

Just re-found this thread after a few years. I'm still impressed by the amount of attention to detail. Absolutely beautiful build! I know you've been through personal trials since you started, I hope you are able to complete your dream truck.

Not sure how but managed to get the box in primer! Goal was to metal finish and not use filler but ended up using a tad of filler on some pitting on box floor. Lots of pickin n' filin' on bedsides. There were creases at all four corners. Junk 3m gun came apart while spraying and let's just say I will have red primer freckles for years to come!

Blocking primer on, then blocked every nook and cranny then re-primed. Underside now in color!

Back on cart to finish up the rest.

My daily driver 1966 F100 Ranger (factory bucket seats) all options truck has been bare metal for approx 16 months. It’s got caught in quite a bit of rain lately so time to do something with it.

    It’s a 352 with the 3 spd Overdrive Trans.

I made these wooden blocks from hardwood to help in sanding the many grooves on top n bottom side of box floor.

Got the basic shape then used sticky 80 grit paper stuck to grooves then sanded wood for perfect fit. To sand I just reversed. Put sticky on blocks

Stampings are different so one groove block goes one way the next grove rotate 180 deg.

The F100 Ranger looked like this! Drove it for a month or so as joke then it got old so decided to remove stripes. Got a bit carried away.

There are only 53 total trucks in Ranger Registry so it’s a quite rare truck. Local driving have gotten 22.6 mpg out of the stock 352. The factory Overdrive combined with the 3.25 gear gives final gear of 2.275. The very low rpm TQ of the 352 does wonders. 35 mph per 1000 rpm.

It’s been in Arizona since new. One family owned. The 1965 TBird hubcaps were ordered with truck as was the 1965 TBird paint tropical turquoise.
Paint code on door tag is blank
It also has the only known center jump seat.

Thanks Bob! Trying to get box painted but getting so much rain. October 1st we had enough rain to be second most rain in October since records were kept. Raining again today. Our annual rainfall is under 7” per yr. we just may beat that for month of October.
