Nice car, what discs and spindles did you use? I used the Granada ones on my 66 Comet and am in the process of switching the 8 inch for a 8.8 out of an Explorer to give me discs on the rear.

  5. The spindles are factory v8 drum spindles, the discs are a kit similar to the mustang kelsy hayes kit for mustangs cost around $500 with everything, a good deal and nice kit.

Some more motor pics with the original air cleaner and valve cover breather, I still need to restore it, but it's coming along! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1376710292.316286.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1376710306.578091.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1376710319.499069.jpg

Looks very nice. Great build. Here is an underhood shot of one of my 65's. Not 100% concours but pretty close. Black is to glossy on the engine compartment. A few minor details that most people never notice but bug me. I need to start the thing and drive it. It has been over a year. Brian

  7. Beautiful engine compartment Brian. On my dads car the chrome service decal is on the passenger side shock tower, also on the air cleaner is an unknown Mylar type decal below the super cyclone and an autolight spark plug one on the drivers side. Did yours have these as well? Is the snorkel a semi or gloss black? Also, the fuel filter canister, is it supposed to be white?

    Thank you!
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

I have seen the Autolite decals on either side. I don't think they really cared where alot of that stuff went when they were built. You can find out more from the Mustang guy's as they get really serious about the details. The snorkel is gloss but I am not sure that is correct? The fuel filters are definately white. Your vacuum advance should have the steel line that threads into the carb as well as the distributor. I don't know of any other decals on the air cleaner but again some of this stuff is inconsistent. I had this engine out about 12 years ago and for the most part not touched it since. Last thing I did was add a three gauge rally pac which are pretty cool. I will help you if I can on anything. Brian

Mike;that decal was on the left [drivers side]on my Comet. The spacer for the alternator was natural colored,in fact it is still on mt Comet! NAPA has a great black paint for under the hood and chassis, real close to the correct non-gloss,ask David for it ROY.

  10. Bump For an interesting thread. Here's our old family car- still in the family. Sat in our barn with the horse biscuits from 1987-2006. From there, we restored it like you are doing now! Great job!

Retro61;65 Comet threads are allowed because they are a continuation of the 64 body style, like all the threads on pickups that used the same basic design through the 60s!! It seems to fall into some kind of grey area!! ROY.

nice build- I have a 1965 merc comet caliente- had since 1984 from orig owner. Now once again- time for interior & paint. I did my 2nd front end using heavier 1967 mustang 390 springs!! This really helps diving & handling too. Find urself a C-6 from a van (300 cube 6 ) and build it = bullett proff!! The engine in my car was rebuilt by owner hisself & was an origional 271hp car with 4 speed.I did the c6 conversion & never looked back!

Made it to the body shop today, thanks Roy! Lots of sanding and grinding with a 41/2 inch harbor freight angle grinder to get all that paint off! It's got zero rust, a couple waves, but should be very little actual body work. I can't wait to see it!

Looking good! I love those cars - my dad is in the (slow) process of building a '64 Comet Cyclone.
