A really nice trip back into time. It brings back fond memories of the era of my short drag racing career.

It would have to be late 64 for this to be there. Thanks for the memories.

Great photos.....thanks for the post. When did that place open/close? Don't they have an 1/8 mile strip near Springfield called Ozark Raceway?

Fantastic photos. Thanks very much for taking the time to post them. I would also like to know the location of this old track. I've raced at the current Ozark Dragstrip and the background landscape looks really different in these old photos.

Great pics. Takes you back to a time when life was simple. I saw a couple of lightweight plymouths in there too.

This track is not the same one that is still open. This track was in Ozarks MO. not in rogersville (current track). Track is still there as a street in a subdivision. I still have 30-40 more to scan and post, I'll try to get to this week.

Thanks for posting these gems. They are really great and bring one back to those great days.

I can't believe how narrow that right side lane is. What is that? about 2 feet of pavement on this guys right?

This photo is what photography is about, you can feel the adrenalin of competition in this shot. Either the engine is about to die or there's a fire, looks like an extinguisher the guy is holding on the left.

If you think thats narrow you should see where they are STILL racing at George Rays! I can't believe it. I went there about 10 years ago in a high 8 second (1/8th) mustang and it was narrow.

Narrow little tracks definitely still exist. Here's a shot of Old Dominion Dragway in Manassas, VA (built and continuously operated since 1953):

Narrow and short shutdown and all, they still turn 140 - 150 mph in the 1/8 there.

It's a fire extinquisher, and I think the guy just emptied it on this guys car, and he's hopping out to see if he can fix it before qualifying ends! :)
