I wonder if it would help to break up the big, ugly wiring projects with small, easy jobs throughout...
The wiring kit from American Autowire makes rewiring the thing a weekend project. An organized, well-documented, awesome instructions, weekend project. Their instructions for my '61 had dedicated wiring diagrams for all variations of the instrument cluster--there are at least three, and I think four, different variations; full instruments, full idiot lights, oil pressure gauge the rest idiot lights, and I think something to do with differences in turn signals (for the '60). -Brad
Nice 'Burb, very jealous! I have been thinking about those for a while. Wiring is a daunting task it you haven't ever done it. Listen to Brad54, buy a complete kit, and save your self the headache later. Good luck with it, keep at it, it will be worth it.
That's a good looking truck to start out with. Most of them around here got beat to death as Hunting rigs years ago.
That's funny! I've taken mine to deer camp and slept in the back of it with Boy Wonder several times. -Brad
Yes, in sections (take your pick where) install the Peel and Seal, Fat Mat, ect to cool and sound deaden the interior. Since paint and body is way after the drive train/wiring, brakes ect. run a buffer over the paint you have. Polish the lenses for the tail lights, paint the inside housing chrome silver or BRITE white. Round up some old style engine accessories to go with the theme. No 'dub's' or neon right?
Paint the bumper white, or score some good used chrome ones. That will help lose that dated '90s look.
'60-'66 were 2-doors. Actually, all of them from the beginning were, up until the 3-doors came out, which I THINK is '68, but I'm not sure. -Brad
'67 was the first year of the newer body style, '60-'66 has only 2 side doors. 1967: 1964-66: HAHA I knew you'd like that one............
I wasn't sure if they did the 3-door the first year of the new body, or waited a year to introduce it. -Brad
jj, dont listen to these guys on here. those trucks pull horrible and use gas like its going out of style. on slick roads they are deadly. get rid of it NOW!!. TRADE IT FOR A 99 TAHOE. you will be alot happier. one with all the comforts of home. one with alot of miles on it , so you know its a proven truck. i just so happen to have one i dont need!! lol just kiddin man i love that truck of yours. i looked at alot of them down here but none id want to bring home.but if i find one as good as yours seems to be it WILL follow me home! lolgood luck with her.
If anyone knows where I can get a steering column for auto trans let me know. I don't want to put a floor shift in.
I'm on my 4th Suburban now. My previous were '57, '60, and '64, with my present a '69. I've always loved the early ones, and never thought I'd own a long wheelbase Burb, but I actually like it now that I've owned it a year or so. That's a pretty nice one you've got, and a great start for a daily or tow vehicle! I would just keep the column you have and convert the column shift mechanism to operate the automatic. I did it to two of mine ('57 and '60) and it worked very well.
I know nothing about columns, what's it take to make it work? I also need some directional parts, arm is missing for sure. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
