  1. Man, It looks a 100 times cooler now like this than it did with the Supremes!

Hey, I just noticed the hood open at the cowl. I haven’t seen that old trick in years. That was cool on muscle cars back in the ‘60s, nice touch. Like others have said, that’s the way a ‘61-‘63 Chevy oughta look (and with the 409 muscle to back it up!)

  5. This beautiful car brings back a memory.
In the summer of 1963, I was working two jobs in Vancouver, in an attempt to scratch up my tuition for the next term at UBC. One of my jobs, was pumping gas near the corner of Broadway and Kingsway in Vancouver.
There was a longshoreman my age, that lived in the neighbourhood and used to hang around the garage. He traded in a gorgeous 56 2dr hardtop on a special order 409/425hp, black, two door hdtp, just like yours.
It was a thing of beauty, and even though I had ridden and driven other 409 cars, and a 406 Ford, this car was fantastic. It was the most powerful stock street car I had a chance to ride in up to that time.
Those were incredible years for showroom performance cars.

Great car. The folks over at 348-409.com would love to see some of those pics.

Man, don't ever apologize for bringing it up. I'm not ashamed nor does it bother me. I like telling my story.

That's the plan this July if we ever get back to racing. There is a 348/409 meet at my home track during a nostalgia event we plan on going to. We named the car Henry's Reject. Lol

Cool, that looks like one mean car.
Back in 1965 I was driving a 55 Nash Metropolitan convertible because I didn't have better sense at the time. I was sitting at the intersection by Bob' drive in in Sunnyside WA (a couple of miles from our Rocket's hot rod garage Hambers shop) when the ragtop felt like it was bouncing up and down and was actually shaking a bit from the concussion from the exhaust from the car next to it. Next to me was a white 63 409 with one of the hardest hitting street engines I have ever been around. That thing shook the ground around it and the only car that ever came close was my buddie's 426 Hemi in Texas a few years later.

Super nice car. I've been involved with X Frame Chevies for many years on and off the track and never saw anyone run with the rear of the hood propped open like that.

  17. I think an appropriate way of expressing my reaction to this car and all the memories of those times is,
"Oh damn, I think I just cheated on my wife!"

The only thing missing to make it really even more intimidating would be tow bar brackets.
That always made people know you were serious!

'63's have always been my favorite Impala, ever since our neighbors brought home their new maroon convertible. Love the triple red lenses, I've never seen that done before, and the old raised hood trick is cool.

  22. Very cool story . The big Chevies had a lot of style and coupled up with the available high horse 409's were and have become sought after time pieces. It is great to read so many replies on guys stories about the cars they had and their liking to yours. My lil story ....as a early teen my friends sister was 19 and had an Anniversary Gold 63 SS 327 /300 4 speed with Keystone mags . She would take us for ice cream and I always was impressed how well she could shift the car. Fast forward to today and I have a 62 SS 409 /409 hp car that was born with A/C also, 327 /300 hp .....so it had a heart transplant with the correct 62 409. I also have a 61 Bubbletop SBC automatic cruiser. Just to note if not cancelled in July there is scheduled a 409 meet at the 42 Dragway in Ohio . It is dubbed "Rock n Race " . There will be a big showing of 409 cars in attendance and some Z11 cars . The grand Marshall will be Hayden Proffitt...a legend in 409 drag racing . Last years event was incredible and we will be attending again if this virus fades . Thanks for your pictures , awesome car done in black.

As a Ford guy....i have to admit that 63s are just plain cool. I worked at a Chevy deallership in 1964 for a while and fell in love with a left over 63 turquoise/white 327 4 speed. I wanted that car so bad.......
alas college needed my $$$$..... i'm in.
