You're reading my mind! Stay tuned, I think you'll like what I have planned. And here's a little teaser...The car is going to be 60's style but NHRA legal under the current rules AND street legal (sort of).:)

Thanks Jeff! When I started this Build Thread I didn't know what to expect but your post along with everyone else's is really inspiring. I enjoy every single post including the posts of other folks cars. I can't wait to cruise the local hang out and hear someone say "Hey, Norwell's looking for ya":) lol

  4. My favorite car I ever owned was a 62 Biscayne. Unfortunately I was so crazy in 1973 that I kept blowing everything up.

Nothing cool to report but here's the latest. Didn't get anything done over the weekend as The Cleveland Piston Powered Autorama was in town. After 2 years of no show, I would have slept there if they would have let me.
The back half is cleaned up and ready for paint. What looks like rust is nice clean red oxide. There may be other builds in my future but I will never do this part again, lol :). My shop is a mess and this was much easier when I was young.

  8. The thing about grinding is no one offers to help! I can almost ''taste'' the grit when looking at those pics.

How come all of my cars have thick nasty undercoating and flaky nasty rust. When I crawled out from under one of mine I looked like I was dipped in a bucket of tar and then covered with flaky crusty rust. Yours looks great!

You're doing a helluva good job!
This one lived close to me late 60s-70s. Coulda been bought for $2500 at the end of it's career....:(
Owner built a clone of it a few years ago, at considerably higher cost no doubt!

Been thru this one before. I bought an off brand multi speed paint buffer with 5/8 arbor and ran wire wheel meant for a bench grinder. The variable speed kept the wire wheel from flying apart versus an angle grinder. Was able to knock out large sections with wide wire wheels.

One hang up on an edge with the angle grinder and it'll come back and bite ya.

  23. Underside looks great! So tell us more...brushed, rolled, sprayed? Por15, Urethane, Rustoleom?

Thanks for the tip. You're right, the speed of the angle grinder is too fast. Kinda out of control at times, And I did lose some skin. I looked at my buffer but I couldn't figure out how to attach the wheels. Gonna have to look for an arbor.

Thanks and yea, I guess I shoulda shared that. Stripper Wheels (Left in pic) worked great on rust but they didn't last very long. A wire cup brush was used on everything else. The bristle disc was expensive and not very effective.
There are a ton of new coatings out there but over the years I've learned to stick with what works, good old Rust-oleum. I started with a brush out of a quart can. It was slow going and hard to get into the corners. Spray bombs were the answer. 5 cans later and the back half was done. I did my Race Car with Rust-oleum in 2008 and it has held up well. If Rustoleum works, it works. No sense in reinventing the wheel!

Thanks! It was @Jeff Norwell and his 57 Ford build that got me going. Great that we can inspire each other. I love that 61!
