Hot Rods 1960's Vintage Dragster Find

Oh and here is what I found on a lead from a guy that seen our B/Comp Coupe.

Ok, now with the body...

 

Damn, Mike you find the coolest stuff. To everyone, I have seen the 32 in person it is pure BadAss. A true piece of history.

 

What is so cool about this one is, the true Harley-Davidson front wheels, flat head engine, three speed trans with only 2nd & 3rd and the banjo style rear end.

I'd like to give everybody a heads up on the Hot Rod Drags, July 31st coming up at Sabin, Mn.

 

26 days and counting down. Here's where we are today...

 

We're are getting ready to dyno the 301 as soon as Thursday.

This is the engine we are using in the Thumps B/Comp Coupe.

This engine that will be used in the copy coupe after the Hot Rod Drags the july 31st.

We will run different wheels and tires on it for the races and the car will be switched back after the weekend.

First time in over 40 years there has been a motor running in the B/comp Dragster.

Have you been able to discover where the coupe was sitting/stored for so many years?

 

Did you make it to the drags? Is there video? Excellent story so far,its great how you have taken your time to honor this car the way it should be and in the process, become part of its history.

First time down the track in over 40 years! For some "saftey" reasons Mike was not allowed to make a "true" pass. It was still great to see it go down the track!

 

Why wouldnt they let him make an 1/8 mile pass?

 

You should have brought it to the Meltdown Drags. You would have run it!

The tech guy/owner #1 said put a tranny blanket on it, so I made a call and found one. Second owner came up and said they are not letting it on the track! He said there's 15 things plus wrong with it and that's it.

So I talked to the 1st owner and he said no burn out, but I could pull it to the line for pics and could drive down the track without giving it gas so that the throttle couldn't get stuck. So that's what was done and it sucked bad.

This was a big let down, but the right choice, for NHRAs rules and they are for our protection and as much as we don't like it, we are stuck with them.
As the 1st owner said, he would love to see this run, as much as anybody else, but there are not many of these around because they were unsafe and the rules are written in blood, for that reason.

I need to make some safety changes, that's why we need a copy coupe to run. I will not change this one anymore. Mike

 

I must say, I'm sorry it didn't go our way. Last year with the new owner he let us run what we brung. So thats why I thought I could run this car at our Hot Rod Drags. I thought if we rent the track and policed it ourselves like last year. Thats why we ran the full Quarter mile last year.

I did shift it in to third gear and noticed a bad shake, so we'll have to look at it. Then try to get some runs on it privately and post videos later making a pass.

I was watching the Meltdown Drags thread and was bummed to see it was the same date, so hope to maybe check it out next year.

I had no choice, we were the feature car this year at the Hot Rod Drags. I was honored, our car was on the T-shirts, for this years drags.

Again, sorry we couldn't run, but thanks to everybody that came. The interest was overwelming and I had a great time anyway.
