Hello. I have a three ring binder full of (unpublished?) Robert Hegge black and white 8 by 10's from the 1960's. I thought I would put a few up here and see what can be found out about them...here is number one...a "T" from Minnesota...

What does "are we missing something mean?" If you can't see the photos, say so. If you can't read the text, say so...

This was built by Cy Kubista in the mid to late 60's. I believe that Cy was from Rochester, MN and before this, he built a very nice '40 Ford coupe, also with a blown Lincoln. He's still around and involved in the old car hobby to some degree ... I've seen him with a vendor space at the Pomona swap meet several times.

Photo #2 is an updated version of the same car.

Small world dept.: His cousin was my 11th grade English teacher ... she must have had a soft spot for gearheads as I got a "gentleman's C" in the class despite sitting in the back of the room reading hot rod magazines most of the year.

Cool photos! ... Thanks for sharing them with us here on the H.A.M.B.!

You might consider posting thumbnail versions of these images (or just a link to this thread) in Jeff Norwell's March 2010 *BIG NEWS* Bob Hegge Collection Found!* thread.

Neat old photos, lets see some more please ! I was going to say that looked like Cy Kubistas' T which was called the TNT in the updated photos. He won the ISCA Championship with that car . I met Him and his wife a few years back at a car swap meet in Canfield, Ohio. Really nice people to talk to.

The little boxy type roadster was built by someone named Collins I believe. I think it later featured a simulated ? chain drive to the rear wheels. The other photo looks like a picture of Joe Wilhelms Wild Dream roadster.

Thanks again for sharing and I hope to see more of your photos.

Thanks for posting, some great pictures. Some of these look to be taken at the Detroit Autorama, of course number 4 is. The one display is the Bearing Burners which is still an active club.

  16. Yep ... pic "number 5":

1964 Detroit Autorama (by Bob Hegge).jpg

... was taken at the 1964 Detroit Autorama ... and yes, that's Joe Wilhelm's "Wild Dream" roadster in the bottom right corner of the photo.

Love those early reversed wheels ! I remember when the later style reversed chrome wheels came out ,I hated the early tapered rims. Now after all these years I lovem. Weird.

  19. Number 3 was powered by a Datsun 4 cylinder engine if I remember correctly. If it is the one I'm thinking of,a guy named Louis Neumann bought it in the early 90's.He was in his early 80's at the time and bought a nudist resort in Union Lake MI about the same time.I remember he staged car shows there to try and increase membership.I attended the shows for about 7 years.
Wish I could remember who built it;it was a neat car.

Robert Hegge did a lot of camera work for Bob Larivee, who did the Autoramas and published the magazine with all the show cars.
    ISCA, etc.

As a follow up to my earlier post , the roadster in picture number 3 was shown in the 1971 "Show World" program. These were sold at the indoor custom car shows produced by I.S.C.A. If I get my scanner to cooperate I'll post the picture that I found.

According to the caption in the magazine, the car was named the "Collins Speedster" and was built by a guy named Gene Collins. Detroit was listed as his hometown. The caption also stated the car was powered by a Chevy engine and was painted by Chuck Miller, also from Michigan.

Picture number six looks as thought it may be from another show, possibly Pittsburgh or New York ?

Pretty sure this is Squeege Jerger's deuce. His son Doug is running his paint shop here in the valley now and turning out some of the coolest stuff going.
