  3. Niceeeeeeeeeee!!!!! Looks like the ULTIMATE form of winter weight for us fella's in the north!:D

The first two hemi's that I purchased was on new years day a few years back, loaded them into the back of the plow truck that I had at the time and got a storm later that day. That poor old plow truck would push more snow in 2 wheel drive than it had ever thought of doing in 4 wheel drive, It would almost stand it up on end when you got a hard bank. lol

    Ok,so I have 5 sets of 1958 Chrysler 392 '528' casting heads.

If you want 354 heads I have a pair of '56 1619823 castings, and one spare.

I also have a single '555' casting that I'm keeping for a spare until my motor is finished for my coupe.(I'd hate to sell it now, only to find I have one that's a mess, then have to search for another single,or end up buying a set to get one).

    darn, would love 555.

    Anything thats ported and racey?

  6. Scott - nice score! Any chance you can check the CC on the 555 chamber? Or maybe you already know what they measure? Fooling with some ideas on my 392.

sourcing an aftermarket "Pontiac" rod, is, of course, a completely different matter.

The 555 is a single,so I'm gonna hang onto it for a spare for my set,but there are some ported heads.
I have to offload them all at my storage area tomorrow afternoon,so I will check on what's ported and get back to you tomorrow night.

I have no valves for the 555 head,so I can't tell you for sure what the chamber cc size is tony.
I've got lots of 392 heads if you need a nice pair though.:)

When I get my 555's together in the spring I can tell you,but until then I don't have any numbers for you, sorry Brother.

There are a couple options for rods on the 392 motors. K1 makes a set of H-beam rods and the guy who started K1 went and started another company making the same rod under a different name. Hot Heads sells both brands and they will tell you that either one is decent. They run between $550-$600 a set. Crower will also make you a real nice set for a big stack of $$$$$. My project stalled at the rods because I can't make up my mind.

I here 440 rods will work but I don't think anyone sells them in a 7" length(6.95). They are either 6.8 or 7.2 long.

If anyone knows of anyone else that makes h-beam 392 length rods, I would love to know!

  11. Scott ported 392 heads have a nice sound to them :) let me know what you find. As for rods I am running the K1 H beams. Nice piece of mind.

I had no idea those K1 rods were priced about the same as an Eagle Pontiac rod...that's good to know.
Leaves a little more padding in the bank account for custom pistons.:)

The stock 440 rod is 6.768", 0.182" short for a 392 so you have a couple of options: Custom pistons and move the pin, or, weld and offset grind the crank for a itty-bitty stroke.
The 426H NASCAR rods are/were available in 6.95" but they are quite heavy in original form.
These days a lot of folks use a generic 2.2" journal rod; just be careful of the big-end width. If it does not match the 392 rod then additional work is required. The big benefit is cheap-cheap-cheap bearings. The down side is the pin diameter. Using a 2.2 rod will require custom pistons unless the rods are custom ordered with the 0.984" pin. The 2.2 rod also allows for an offset grind.

Well the reason I am stuck on the connecting rod choice. Crower will make a stock length rod with the correct big end size and will even make it with a larger pin size for between $1600-$2000. Callie's said they would also make 392 rods, but I would have had to commit to 10 sets of rods for about the same price and I don't have that kind of money. I was going to go with 426 rods but didn't want to put the pin in the oil ring and wasn't sure about using the short rod. I just wanted a stock length and called everyone with a good reputation. I did not want to run aluminum rods for service and clearance reasons so I am just saving my money for the Crower set.

I have been collecting parts for my motor for about 6 years and don't want to go cheap on the rods after I have sought out the best of everything else that I could swing.

I am running a Sunny Bryant crank, Bob McKray prepared cylinder heads off of a front engine fuel car, Donovan gear drive, Mallory mag, stripped blower, etc.....

Sorry not trying to high jack your post. I hope you get your motor done a lot faster than I have!

Are the 555 heads really that desirable? I have a good pair of them, off a stock '55 Imperial with 27k miles. I might be talked into trading them for a fresh pair of 392 heads. :D

I got a final count on what I've got out there:
    - 11 '58 392 heads,all stock
    - 1 555 head
    - 1 1632159 331 head
    - a single race-ported '823' head (354)
    - a nice pair of ported '823's

The ported 354's look really good, but they're going to be a bunch more money than a pair of the bone stock 392 castings.

I have been in contact with a legendary drag racer from the 60's and he has a billet crank, mickey thompson rods and 8 over sized pistons for $800, I'm gettin em!

It shouldn't be to difficult to find pistons but he also has a set of "555" heads with 2" valves from an old nitro car, the problem is that he said they have a hairline crack from either exhaust or intake port down to spark plug.

I'd love to hear other opinions about the heads.

Cast iron can be welded by a very skilled welder.
Lots of guys think they can repair it,but they will just end up making a mess.
Shop around and ask some shops in your area.

A few parts for my hemi!

My block is being magged and pressure tested and should have results soon.

If anyone is looking for a 8 cylinder sleeved 392 standard bore for $750 PM me and I'll pay it forward and get you in contact.

Any thoughts on who to use or what it would cost to ship a sleeved block to central Ohio ?

I recently used Box Brothers to ship a B&M HydroStick trans from Woodland Hills Calif to Michigan, and they were about $600,but they were by FAR the safest, most reliable, most professional shipper I have ever dealt with.
I would use them again in a second.

If you ever need anything shipped let me know, I'm friends with shippers everywhere. Uship is cool too. I shipped a 33 wilys fiberglass front end from New York to L.A. on a pallet for $300, freightquote.
