I have been trying to find parts for my Falcon's rear end, and nobody can pin point the exact specs! 6.75? 7.25? 8?

    From what I've researched, I think it's a 7.25, but I need to know for sure. It's a 1960 Falcon 2 door hardtop, 144 ci, 3 on the tree.

a shop manual will help there is a difference from the car
/ ranchero/wagon rear you can tell by the ribs casted into the housing

almost everything in the rear excpt the bearings are not aviable

    had one in my ranchero
if you want to replace it
a ford maverick 6 cyl 4 lug rear 5 lug also will fit
the 4 lug is the same bolt pattern

Thanks guys for the help. The parts I'm going to order up are axle seals, bearings, wheel cylinders, u-joints. I think I'll go with new parts, but as I tear things apart and get into it, I'll know more about why I'm getting a loud humming noise over 50 mph.

Thanks for the offer of parts off your cars. I'll let you know if I need them. I live in Arlington/Marysville WA.

I have never had a stock Falcon differential that I wouldn't consider noisy. My '62 came to me in '82, and it already sounded like the rear end was going to come apart. I replaced it with another from a lower mileage car thinking it would sound better... Nope!

Crap! Just gave my old one to the local junk dealer, and we're not that far apart.

My dad picked up a Falcon just like yours years ago. I learned how to drive a stick in that car. Somehow it couldn't keep spider gears in it after I started driving it.
