i recently bought a really solid 1960 Fairlane. i have since been looking at suspension and drive train options. i am planning on running air suspension. As most of you know, the front suspension design found on these cars are not conducive to a proper air bag install.this led me to my next question. what would be the best running gear to use (front clip, rear axle, brakes etc) i am currently deployed so i cannot get out and start measuring donor cars but i would like to get a rough plan together before i get back so i can start looking. i would like to use 80-93 crown vic 5.0 running gear (if its efi i will convert it back to a carburetor setup) but i am having a hard time finding axle width measurements. thoughts?

  2. I'd bet the front from a newer Crown Vic/and cop cars or the like will be about what you want....It is a crossmember style that bolts in originally.
It may dictate rework of the front rails to accomplish the swap ,but would be a definite upgrade in many ways......A '60 is a wide car,was at the time the largest car on the road.....
I used the disc brake rear from a 94 in a 54 chevy pickup once so that tells that it is in the 60-62" range for width.....the front cant be very far off that measurement as a result.....
