Does anybody know what bulb goes in the inside tail light on a '60 Chevy Biscayne? Right niw there are 1156s in there, but it looks goofy with the bright inside lights and dim outside lights. This is a tail light only and not a brake/signal bulb. My factory service manual for '59/60 only lists bulbs for '59... They are all the same for the most part EXCEPT the tail lights... Apparently '59 used all 1157s... Help is much appreciated!!!

Google an "automotive bulb chart" and compare the watts and/or candlepower of the 1157 tail light filament and search for a single filament with the same specs and a base like your 1156. You might also check the 1157 socket and housing for corrosion or bad ground. It's possible it isn't as bright as it should be.

I believe the outside bulbs were both tail and stop and the inside bulbs were tail only. Different sockets and bulbs. I converted my Bel Air.

Probably a good idea ^^^. Change the sockets and run 1157s across the board. In today's world, the more light in back, the better. JMO.

Shouldn't be a 1156, they are as bright as the brake light portion of a 1157. There is a smaller bulb that has the same base as a 1156 but is only half as bright, dang, I can't remember the number of it right now. I want to say it's a 1149, but that may not be it.

  6. 1156 is usually for things like license plate lights and some back-up lights. They won't blink. 1134 is another bulb that fits the 1157 sockets.

Single element ? Use a 67, same CP as 1034 or 1157 tail element.
We used to change the inside socket to another dual element to increase stop & turn light visability.

I have the Chevy parts book, and it doesn't seem to list the bulbs...strange.

Use some 1157's in both taillights (or all of them)...better yet, go buy some LED's and a new flasher unit...that'll make those taillights really bright...!!!

1034 was the one I was trying to remember, but 67 is the one with the smaller bulb but 1156 base I was thinking of.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll try a 67 and see if that looks better. Eventually I will switch to 1157 in all the lights, but for now I think the dimmer bulb will be a little safer, as several people have made comments to me in traffic that my brake lights are "stuck on"... The two obviously brighter lights apparently confuse people.

When I switch to the 1157s in the back, I'm also planning on adding door jam switches for the dome light, and some courtesy lights under the dash. This is the first car I've worked on that came without door jam switches from the factory... Talk about an economy car, they sure saved every penny they could on the low end models for '59/'60!
