My Dad has a '59 Lark & would like to put on somekind of small air shocks to help lift & hold the hood up, he is getting older & it is becoming more difficult for him to do.Has anyone done something like this before? He is also looking for an air cleaner for a Rochester 2 barrel carb. Thanks.
Is he looking for a stock style air cleaner? There may be help here. http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/
I've got a 50 (and 60) Lark and have "thought" about doing this to mine...just haven't. Sorry...can't help right now. Mike
I'd suggest that you go to your local Pick -A-Part and find a newer model with a hood about the length of the Lark and a gas strut setup. Just remove the brackets and struts and install them on the Lark. One caution, The Studebaker hoods are a bit weak so I'd think about adding a stiffing strip along each side of the hood.
Thanks everyone for the advice. We'll give this a try. I'm working on a '64 Galaxie 500 & I told him that when we get our cars completed that we can drag for pinks.
Watch out now...we older dudes can be sneaky. Make sure there isn't a Paxton-charged Packard 352 under that wimpy hood. Best of luck on your project - we geezers appreciate our kids helping us out. dj
