Good Evening Everybody I own a 1959 Buick Lesabre with a leaking speedometer driven gear .Is there a place in the USA that repairs this part? Thanks for your help Herbert
It likely isn't the gear itself. There is a seal that goes inside the assembly the driven gear rides in, when the speedo cable attaches it makes the seal. I have made them from 1/8th inch rubber, the od is about the size of a 5/16ths washer and the ID is just big enough for the cable, when you draw the speedo cable connector tight the rubber seals against the gizmo that the driven gear sit in.
Take the sleeve and the driven gear to a local transmission shop, if there's one in your area. As mentioned there's a seal between the gear and the sleeve and probably another one between the sleeve and the trans extension housing. I'd think there's a fair chance that the seals are the same as some other later model transmission.
