Hi I am finishing up putting my 58 Impala together and I had the 348 rebuilt and now i want to put new gears in the rear end to give it a little more torque. I was wondering if any of you w block guys know what are good gears to run these motors with and since im not sure where they build there power I need some advice. I havent talked to my engine guy about which exact cam hes putting in all i know is its an isky flat tappet cam designed to run with the 3x2 setup. I was leaning towards 3.36's or 3.55's, what do you guys think? Also it has the original powerglide trans.

If you're just crusing around, 3:36 is a nice gear with the PG and the torque of the W engine. More performance and you're talking 3:70-4:10, but that's sucking gas now days.

Since your car is a Powerglide car it came with 3:36 gears from the factory - why change?
