Bought an adapter with flywheel and starter. Not much info in here on setting up the shift linkage or column detents. Is there a trick or parts to make this work right? I don't mind just feeling feeling the detents in the trans when shifting but my wife drives the car and I might as well buy a new trans every week.
If you are retaining the original Ford-O-Matic column this will make things EZ:http://lokar.com/product-pgs/column...-shift-linkage-pgs/ford-aod-colshiftlink.html or you can go this route like I did:http://www.ebay.com/itm/B-M-80683K-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebc95acf4&vxp=mtr
Try to find a AOD from a truck or van since it has a arm that will be alot better then one from a car,you will probably need to lengthen the shifter rod to make it work. I put a 73 to 79 truck C-4 in my 55 and the original shifter rod fit with mo modifications but no AODs were made back them.
Two Jeff's answered. Lol I saw the Lokar one but didn't know if there were detents in the column. I'm trying to keep it as stock looking as possible while I upgrade the running gear. I appreciate the links though. I already have one trans but not sure what it came out of. I'll check though. Thanks!
The original shifter should work just fine, even though the newer trans has one more gear to select it works just fine in my 55 and P to L are lined up perfectly and 2 is between D and L.
