Hello, This black 57 ford sedan was one of those optioned out cars for more power. He had a stock supercharger on it and it ran well. Our 58 Chevy Impala was in the same A/Stock class at Lions and we raced against each other quite often. In 1958, we won more times than losing. But, he was fast for a 57 competing in a class with 90% Chevy 348 motors. But, in 1959-60, we both saw the light when those really powerful 335 hp cars came out. No more A/Stock classes for us. He was the fastest of the 57 Fords that we saw at Lions in 58-59. I thought the 57 fords looked really good and that the Ranchero was the killer set up. I ended up being an El Camino guy (65+72), but in 1957 I really wanted 2 cars, 57 Nomad and a 57 Ford Ranchero with the supercharger. Thanks, Jnaki
Nice '57 Jeff. I'm partial to the Customs myself. If a '57 had come along before I found my '59, I'd be driving that.
Here's my 57 ford was 10 best customs in 1963 won Portland roadster show plus more. Has 58 lights and 58 top grafted on was a roll over car Sent from iPad
Its amazing how great a these stock bodied cars can look with a little lowering and with decent wheels and caps.
Many years ago I had a job reading meters for the electric company. So I went into a lot of backyards. There was one house I would go to that looked like it was straight out of The Munsters. I wont say the lady that lived there was crazy, but she had a LOT of cats. In back there was a 57 2 door wagon, and a 58 Corvette sitting in the weeds. When I would see her I would ask if she wanted to sell the Corvette, but she wasn't interested. But she said she would sell the wagon. I forget the price, but it wasn't much. I passed because I wanted the Corvette, not the wagon. I have been kicking myself ever since.
All a guy has to do is look around. If they are so ugly why have thousands been restored, hot rodders and kept on the road ? I don't even have one but would. I like 57 Chevy's a little better but only a "little " . There is always some journalist that has his own stupid opinion and throws a half assed story out there to fill his obligation to keep his job. Just this thread proves him wrong let alone just looking around ourselves.
I absolutely love the style of a completely side de-chromed 57 Ford 2 door. Also like the '57 Pickup...but not as much as the two door. Never thought of them as ugly. But some of the heavily chromed models (IMHO) detract from the great body lines at times. But ugly? No way!
This has to go in this post, one of the UKs most influential drag racers Mr Dave Grady to you sir granted a well deserved place in the Drag racing hall of fame , RIP Dave
