This car was for sale on here over a year ago. Well my dad decided we would take a trip from Northwest Washington to Southeast Florida and look at it. Well long story short he bought it and had it shipped home. The car sat for quite some time before he bought it. And we are hoping someone out there saw it when it was a race car. The car has a Bill Thomas modified injection on it. We blew the car apart and have since rebuilt everything. 327 with the Bill Thomas injection still on it. Larry Webb came up and has been tuning the car. Original 57 chev competition 4 speed. 57 olds rear and all magnesium halibrands. Ansen scatter shield. Tuck and roll. All old school and kept the paint of course.

Score! It looks like the stock FI unit was cut then welded back together. What mods were done to it?

Bill Thomas chopped them up. Ported them out and put them back together

That's what they had to do to port the plenum before they made them 2 piece!

My MG had one that the builder Willie the welder cut apart and modified before the put the Hilborn on. I would pay a $1000.00 for that unit. My friend Willie died this year and stuff like this is important to me.

Of course, it's not a Gasser, but rather a / SP or /MSP class car

Man this thing is just too cool! Kudos to your dad for preserving it. Restored Vettes are boring. This one kicks butt!

Pretty cool car. Love the paint. With the modifications made (engine swap especially) this car could not run stock or sports (Sp). If this car ran in the 60s prior to 68 it would be probably have to run modified sports. It is possible at some tracks they could have dumped it into modified production; especially since it has the stock front suspension and full bumpers etc. After the 67 season this car would either have to run gas (maybe C/G with a 327 if it was close to stock weight or possibly D/G) or possibly modified production. Modified sports was no longer after 67 but sports continued for a while-not sure how long-I forget. D/G may have been more favorable with the weight break. The 1957 Vette drag cars held their own as gassers at the local level and nationally such as winning class at Indy in both 68 (Gianino D/G-small block, also winning street eliminator) and 69 (B/G-Foltz'/Emerson Bros 57 with a BBC in the old Midwest car).

I wonder if this was more of a weekend warrior. I may be leaning more towards full competition if it had a roll bar (which in the lower classes I do not believe were mandatory).

With the whitewalls and period slicks I would say you guys may be leaning towards the earlier look (pre mid 65) when it would have been forced into MSP. Tracking down old pictures of these old Vettes is not as easy as it sounds. I have been searching for pictures of certain cars for years. Hope you have some luck in that regards. That being said I am sure your dad will have much more fun with this car than a pure stock car-at least in my opinion. Cool car for sure.

The car had a punched out 283 in it. My dad had just built a 327 so he went with it instead or rebuilding the other. The car had the 283/powerglide and chev rear end before[/QUOTE]

That sounds like a better engine size as Gianino played with a few different punched out 283s to be at the right end of the weight break in D/G.
