OG is a stupid urban version of OE it stood for original gangster, but has transmgrified into meaning anything original. Sorry, I have stupid words for things sometimes.
This one was a "blue widow" originally, a 283 powerpack, 3speed o/d 4.11 posi car. Now to find the rest of the pieces......
Paul McDuffie is my girlfriend's grandfather. I'd like to know if you hae any info on him. He sounded like an amazing man who I would of loved to have shared a beer or two in a garage.
Is this guy related to the Central Florida hot rodder McDuffie? Can't be too many of them. About fuel injection, it had to have been an uncharted oceon in 1957 in the USA. The Europeans had a jump on America in that regard, however carburetors were a refined and tested entity. It's no surprise that the carburetted cars outran the FIs. It makes me imagine what would have happened had GM thoroughly worked out the idiosyncracies of the Corvair, Pontiac OHC sixes and other premature adventures, perhaps they wouldn't be where they are now. This was a most fascinating read and it makes me rue the day I passed up that rust free '57 Chevy 150 2 door sedan for $4,000 a few years ago.
Just to let you know, I have the car. I just bought it about a month ago out of Napa,CA. I will be putting it on tour. Stay in touch. If you have any questions please let me know. Scott Hawley
I have the little book as mentioned-came with my FI hardtop in 76--have looked at it many times--interesting--mine may be a repo book-my FI car is in my album
I just bought this car. It was in Napa, CA. I have been looking for a SEDCO for years and found it. I will be trying to put it on tour this year for NASCAR. Scott
Just found this poster, might be appealing to some of you guys http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Vintage-Chevy-at-Dirt-Track-Posters_i6188358_.htm
There was an article in the "Muscle Cars" magazine September 1990 issue, that featured a Black Widow on the cover.
No problem. Hope you enjoy. I have more I will put up. This is one of just a few real Sedco cars remaining.
I remember seeing this car in a magazine back in the 80's, I thought it was the only sedco car left. Was this car ran in NASCAR or just went straight to drag racing? Is the original fuel injection still on it? Was the speedometer changed to 200 by sedco?
This car was originally a Nascar and then in the 1960 it was turned into a drag car. Yes I do have the correct FI unit. I just had Chuck Smith rebuild it. When it drag raced it had a four barrel. It dropped the HP to 250 instead of 283. Yes it does have the 200 mph gauge and the original AC tach that runs off the distributor. Very rare. It still has all the Sedco equipment on it. I will post some more pics. I have a book I should publish with everything you could ever imagine from Sedco. All the behind the scene stuff that went on with GM and Sedco. Stuff that no one knows about. Very cool. I want to put the car on tour.
Do the headlights have a band or trim ring around the bulb? Was the wagon bumper added later? I have hundreds of questions if you don't mind me asking.
Killer car Hawleywood. Hope you don't mind us asking for info? Do you know of any others still in existance?
Hey Nobo, I know of only two others. One for sure. The first one was Bud Bakers car. It has been completely restored and has Bud's signature on the dash. It is in the midwest. The Second is owned by Richard Childress of NASCAR from what I hear. I would like to do more checking into it. Most of the SEDCO cars were destroyed or beyond repair due to racing.
If my memory still works the 6 cylinder cars had 2.95 first gears. My 57 Corvette 283/220 came with a close ratio 3 speed with a 2.20 first gear trans which I exploded and put a 6 cylinder trans it with the Corvette tail shaft for the shifter. A friend who raced Fords back then told me that the dual quad cars actually ran better but Chevrolet wanted to promote the fuel injection so the factory cars had to run it, second hand story, take it for what its worth
Good question Cactus. At one point they all had Fentons. I know one copy (FAKE) black widow here in the Bay Area that has Fentons. This is dead on with all the SEDCO changes, except the SEDCO TAG. He won't sell them to me.
