Im looking for some info on these fords. Could someone tell me why everytime that I see a 63 f100 it has the 57-60 style bed on it? It cant just be coincidence that a couple people just so happened to put an older bed on a truck because I've seen countless trucks like this. Also for the 61-63 unibodies, was that just a factory option? Did they also have a separated bed/cab option?
OK, anyone can correct if wrong. 61-62 unibodies were the only 2 wheel drive body option for half and 3/4 tons. You would get a separated body front with a earlier model 57-60 bed if you ordered a factory 4x4 in those years. By 63 I think the unibodies were phased out.
The beds from 57-60 were used up untill 1964 is what I understand. Notice in 64 and up the bed lines match the body lines. Could be wrong on this, we'll see.
Sometimes called a wrongbed truck (I had one).....by mid '63 the unibody had failed, Ford was losing sales. But they didn't have any other bed tooled up yet, so they just stuck the old ones on with the flareside cab since the wheelbase was the same. For '64 they had a new styleside bed that matched the cab. 4x4's continued to use the wrongbed through 66...
Yes, as "I understand" the 61-63 is an older squared style. My 64 has the 64-66 styled bed to match the cab. I don't have any knowledge on unibodies- like em but don't know.
Almost right. The "Wrongbed" was an option on the 62 and 63 2wd in addition to the unibody. It was the only styleside bed available in the 61-65 F100 4X4 and the 61-66 F250 4X4. By 64 Ford had tooled up shortbed long and short wheelbase beds that matched the cab lines for the 2wd models. The "correct looking bed was introduced to F100 4X4 long bed and short bed(first my for shortbed) in 1966. The 4X4 previously had a different wheelbase, so the new bed wasn't available with this new bed until 66 when the chassis was updated. F250 chassis was never updated (until the new body style was released for 67), so the 57-60 box hung on through the 66my on the F250 4X4.
