    I'm making mine un-Fairlane and un-'56, but that's what I started with.

Thanks, Japchris. I like yours, too; the '56 Customline hardtops are neat and rare. Of course, what I'm doing is to make a '55 Customline hardtop with the low roof, which didn't exist in nature.

It wouldn't have occurred to me to put a Corvette grille in the Ford opening, but it works very well on yours!

Here is my more door, looks like crap now but finally after two years of ownership I have my own place to start working on it.

P.S. I second the request for notes on chopping the top HankIV

We took four inches out all the way around. Cut the roof in half longways and widenend it. Brewsir from the Swanx c.c. Vallejo Ca. cut the windshield. We put a 47 Buick rear window in it. This was my first chop and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Here are a couple more pics.....[IMG]

Hank IV, is the winshield glass or plexi?

I really would like to chop my car, the one that bothers me about it is how high the roofline is but I am just worried about messing it all up.

The windshield is glass. I think that if we would have taken much more than four inches we would have ran into big problems with the windshield. we had to remove a good amount of glass from the bottom corners of the windshield to get it to lay down. Scary. Everyone I talked to prior to the chop said to cut the glass first then chop the car to fit the glass. Like an idiot I chopped the car first, but fortunately it worked out.

  23. Thats just how I want to chop mine! What is the back window? What are those tail lights?

The back window is out of a 1947 Buick 4-door Sedan. The tail light lenses are from a 59 Buick Le Sabre.

    How's this for a long shot? -

Has anyone seen an off-white and maroon '56 Ford Victoria hardtop with an early 1960s Thunderbird maroon interior and 390 running gear? My Dad sold it in the early 1980s to a guy around Chicago and I'd really love to find that car again.

wow...I want to try my luck at chopping and figured I would find me a $200 car to practice on. Let me ask you this...in your picture you cut down the center..I seen some chops they cut the top in four? also when you widen the top did you need a longer windshiel? I notice you shortened the width of the rear window....here is the other pictures of the latest project I picked up.
