No it seems to have traded hands a couple of times between then and now. It's been in California since then so at least it's been out of the field.

Here's what I've been able to uncover about the car, both from what's in front of me and research I've been able to do. Of course, being able to get a hold of Marlin or John Snyder would be the #1 resource, so if anyone can help on that front, please do!

    Based on moldings, it's a 210.
Per HOT ROD Magazine of the day, it ran H/Stock.
Doing some backwards math on the NHRA Classification guides here, it was originally a 205hp 265 car.
It was a factory automatic, but since it raced in H/Stock it raced as a manual.
NHRA rules in 1965 (when it won H/Stock) state it needed to run stock carb and intake. Exhaust upgrades were allowed, as were flat tappet cam upgrades (it didn't say you couldn't), and gear ratio changes.

That's about all I've got and a great start, but I'd love to know what cam and gears it was running in that little 265!

  4. a guy I know owned a 56 with a 265 4 bbl back in the late 60's. It was factory stock with a automatic. and would turn 75 MPH in the quarter mile.

I think this car is going to be on an upcoming episode of Hot Rod Garage, from MotorTrend channel

Saw this new episode of Hot Rod Garage today - thought it was pretty cool. They take the clapped out 1965 H Stock National Champion 1956 Chevy and freshen up a 265/4bbl with 3sp and take it to Famoso. The episode is unusually free of toxic quantities of billet, chrome, and blister packs:

You'll need a motortrend account or sign up for a temp account, sorry :(

In 1965 it was running 15.3s at 86 mph. The Hot Rod crew was getting 15.70s at 86 mph, which Altitude and Temp corrected to hi 14s at Famoso.

They had 4.11s and Hoosier bias ply "slicks". They also admitted it was at least 300#s light w/o the full interior and bumpers/grill.

I agree that's a great number for the car.

Just looked up the altitude at Famoso and it said it is only 427 feet. Should not be a correction for unless the track is in the foot hills.
Be interesting to see what it would do with a set of 5.13s in the rear. Those 4.11s are not near enough gear.

From what I see of that car it's not "real rough" and would certainly make a nice restoration of the original jr. stocker. Personally I would not get too crazy about making it exactly correct. As long as it looks right, any 283 instead of a 265, aluminum glide or 4 speed etc. enjoy it and have fun.

If you don't care to join the Motortrend app, Hot Rod added the episode as a pop up on their coverage of Drag Week. Just scroll down to the watch automotive archeology.

    Video is no longer available.

I think we met years ago when you were thinking of bringing the 56 back to its glory days. I could be wrong It was late at night in a dimly lit garage. But if it was you I remember a close sentimental attachment and you having some pictures of the car from back in the day. Also remember you working a Speedway auto parts and a shipping co at night. As a matter of fact you were in somewhat of a hurry to get to work.
Another thing I think this car has been talked about on this site on another thread years ago along with a related Malibu race car.

  23. First off allow me to apologize for not attending to this earlier. Does this forum have a notification to response function? Something to the email addy?

I have never seen the pic they had on the starting line at the Nationals. I have all of Dad's pics here. He is still kicking it and at 80 looks younger than I do at 58. LOL. The only Malibu's he has had to my knowledge was a 64 Chevelle and he raced one for Harold Stout.

The show said it was a 56 250 when Dad told me it was a 56 150 the cheaper utility version of the car. No back seat. They gave him a hard time in Tech because it didn't have a back seat and they thought it was a 250. They proved it was the 150 so it could run in H/S.

Dad had 3 56 Chevy's. The white and blue one, a red 2 door and a yellow 4 door. I am looking for pics of the red one. He raced it around the same time. He went through so many cars. Someday I am going to post a thread somewhere of all of the pics I have of his cars. And that is me standing on the hood of the 55. 182514278_309645817400995_2402351125430860196_n.jpg 20768_304956114337_7481373_n_304956114337.jpg

  24. I never worked at Speedway Auto Parts. There was one by my house on 16th Street but it is gone now. I have plenty of friends who worked in the field. Maybe Mark Kaiser? He use to own MPH by IRP. Midwest Performance Hardware? Years ago he was asking me a lot of questions at his shop about this car telling me someone found it and was asking him a lot of questions. Mark and I grew up together. We were neighborhood best friends. His Uncle Dave Vaselof started the Indy Hi-Winder motor club in 1962 with my Dad and one other guy here on the West Side. That is what Dad told me recently. I never even knew this. LOL. I guess I was too little to know anything about it when he was doing that. I remember hanging out at the Tiger Gas Station with him ever now and again. There were a few of those around. I mainly remember one on Washington Street here.

Two other neighborhood guys would have been Mark or Steve Williamson. Both of those guys worked at Auto Parts Stores.

I didn't even really find out about this till I started researching this year. I am trying to pull together a history as Dad and I age and want to leave some of the information I can gain to encourage others.

Sadly this car is no longer "alive" at present...short story is Hot Rod crew restored a frame and driveline and stuck it under the car (so there went the o/g frame)...raced it a bit w a 265 (which was cool) then sold it to Friesenburger. Recently he and Dullsitch took the body off on their show and replaced it with a "better" one....oh well...or maybe they turned it into a 4x4?...I can't remember I changed the channel:rolleyes:

Freiburger sold the car to this guy who sold it on ebay. I saw it for sale again a couple of months ago.

Thanks for coming back with that info really neat you standing on the hood of that 55. Love those old pictures would like to see more.
With what you said about not working at Speedway it must of been someone else that had the car at that time no big deal. I was just trying to help with some history on the car. Take care and please post the pictures Thanks

  30. Well, It was a 250. I have to retract. There is a red one that I am searching for pics that was the 150. I guess it doesn't matter any longer. It survived longer than a lot of them did.

And yes, a lot of cars had National event or record holder notifications on them. It was tough to get those. It wasn't or isn't like you qualified against 16 or 20 cars to get in a field of 16.
