around here,if you didn't have big bucks, you went with black painted rims and baby moons and narrow whitewalls. Jacked up in back a little. Maybe a tube grille.

In the mid 60's we had a car lot in town called, "Jack's Chevy Corner". It was all tri five Chevys and most were stock height. The few that I saw changed from stock height were always raised up higher. Not nose bleed high like the red '55 posted here, but often 4-6" over stock height.
My '55 I had in '69 was a straight axle car, and the rear wheelwells still covered the top 2" of the back tires. I ran Cragar SS all the way around on mine. Lots of guys ran either chrome reverse or Cragars.

I had a'55 Nomad. It was stock ride height with American 5 spokes. Back then, it was a $500 car.

I paid $75.00 for the Belair coupe ... After a minor fender bender I paid $25.00 for a 2 door sedan that had a nice nose on it and swapped it onto the coupe ... think I sold the 3 speed transmission out of it for $25.00 and junked the body for 10.00 ... would like to have them both back ...

My father built a red metalflake 55, around 63-65. Radiused rear wheel wells, turned the front bumper over, and welded upside down in the rearmI'm pretty sure it was raked but not 100% sure, shaved door handles, had electric doors with the buttons, in the side view mirror frames, 389 pontiac 3 speed on the floor don't know if he ever got a 4 speed in it.I think he sold it for $1,500-$1800 in around 66.

Very few 55-57 Chevy-s got a real paint job. Usually primed or original paint. Most had a 265 or a later 283 with a Duntov cam that was purchased from Chevy dealer for $22 ...

Wow! Lots of old familiar avatars in this thread that I havent seen around in awhile.
  17. I was 14 in 65. I seem to remember a lot of them had reversed painted wheels on back with baby moons. The Pontiac engine was swapped into lots of chevys. A neighbor had a 55 convertible. it had black painted rims and rusty baby moons. he swapped the powerglide for a three speed floor shift. 6 cyl. . It sat up on blocks under the carport when he was in the army. his little brother would crank it up and the glasspack and long tail pipe would rack off. When in the army He bought a 67 GTO and never drove the 55 again. They pulled the 55 under the limb of a big oak tree and yanked the engine & trans. The car sat right there under that tree and pretty much turned back to soil.

[IMG]It looked like this in '65 and '66........14"x6'' reversed in the front 15"x7" painted in the rear, pie crusts, grille bars gone, '54 Vette frt bumpers, hood bird gone, wild .060 over 265, manually controlled overdrive, 4:11.
  21. My 55 the grill was removed Elcamino front springs and a Pontiac 389 tri carb four speed!

The color was a severely checked Lemon Twist Yellow!

And I changed it all back Chevy drive train and normal front springs... duh!

Maybe not '65 (I was 7). More like '68 or '69. There were four in my neighborhood. The two that stood out the most were. A turquoise and white hardtop. Tube grille, spot lights, chrome reverse and white walls. Always so clean you could see yourself in it. And a fire engine red one. Black roll and pleat. Black back wheels and cheaters. An American looking wheel on the front. No front bumper. And a small hood scoop, maybe a Super Duty? Think it had a big block of some sort in it. The guy made a lot of long black marks with it.
  23. I have no idea how many magnesium wheels I tossed because they were corroded.

The Four that were on the Yellow 55 I replaced with chrome reverse wheels and baby moons!

Man... if I could go back in time!!!!!!

[IMG] now I know what my blue looked like. I added these wheels however the s/s are sizzlers came out in 67’ . I wanted it to look like an old 60’s car parked. I hope to start it on it soon. Have buckets from a corvair, T56, . More research on the 60’s look to be done.
