Thanks everyone, I have a few more things to do to it. John, I'm sorry but I can't tell you the color. It was a messed up mixed gold that was on the clearance self of KOI. So your guess is as good as mine. I call it Fools Gold Gold I guess LOL. Thanks again everyone, Rob Mullins Big Thanks to Joshua Shaw for his talents of making it stand out with the amazing lettering on this one. The real goldleaf jumps out in person. Thanks again!!!

    Hey J
I picked it up about 2 years ago off of CL for 1800.00 (floors rusted out, trunk and quarters under the tail lights just as bad). It had an Old 455 in it and a TH400. It ran but I wanted to go with a BBC to keep the cost down.
I fabbed the front frame rails and a fittings (everything TIG'd); and am using a front axle from a 56 1/2T pickup with speedway disc conversion kit. the rear axle is a Ford 9" narrowed to 55" with Ford Racing traclok and moser 31 spline axles. 15x10 rims and 31 dia rear tires that came with the rims. Disc brakes in the rear. the front are 15x3.
No motor yet...I have a stock 402 that I'll use to get it down the road and shake everything out but I need to save some money for a real motor:).
It actually a clone of all the 55' builds I've followed here on the HAMB and over at Tri-five.com (mac-55, 2loose,etc).
Anyway it been alot of fun building it. thanks for the comments.

Here's a couple of photos and an update on my gasser style 55 that I built from a totalled 55. The son and I took it to the drags and ran a 14.40 et with a bone stock 454 pickup truck engine with a 30 mph headwind. Felt like 200 mph.lol. Since then I've installed some LS6 closed chamber heads/comp cam and total kit/weiand tunnel ram and two holley carbs/Pertronics ignition. Car has 9in and 456 gears.50 chevy straight axle. Hope to makeit into the 12's. I know wont set the world on fire but It keeps my ticker going and my son and I have a blast with her.

    SICK!!!!

  22. Hey Doug, like your '55. I just don't understand why if your going with a straight axle front end why people wouldn't radius the rear wheel wells. I thought that was a given if your going to do that much change. It just seems to me like your half done. Wouldn't you need more tire if your building a race car?

I dont know. Regarding the radius rear wells, I think a lot of the original super stock cars blurred the lines between stock and gasser. Many had a slight nose up attitude with fenderwell headers, slicks and stock wheel wells.

To me, both styles have their place.

  26. Well stock wheel wells on a Gasser don't work. They had radiused wheel wells for a reason. Better, wider rearends and more tire so they needed room. I don't recall any Super Stocks having an axle. It's like jacking off without cumming, pointless. I even saw a '55 Chevy Gasser on CL that the seller said was "Period Correct" with stock wheel wells, a stock rearend and an axle. Pointless.

  27. Now somebodies going to get all Butt Hurt and say in a little girlie voice " But I don't want to ruin my perfect quarter panels ". Then don't build a Gasser. You just leave your little Cookie Cutter '55 Chevy alone and look just like the other hundereds of tri Five Chevy's that we all see at car shows parked all in a row all by themselves because they're just too cool for us.

  28. There they are in a row. Red n white, blue n white, green n white, yellow n white. All with chrome 5 spokes, fuzzy dice and time out kids, BARF !!!

  29. We see Corvette Gassers with radiused wheel wells. What is so special about a '55 Chevy wheel well? Hell, my '55 Chevy was red and white, raked stance, chrome 5 spokes with Fuzzy Dice until it met it's demise. Cutting those 1/4's just opened the flood gate for me. I felt so relieved, revived, freedom is seductive. BE FREE MY FELLOW WARRIORS, the cut shall set you free.
