Does anyone know the specs of the slot in the camshaft journal for a later cam in a 55-56 chevy.I've heard the hyd. grooves are not the same as the solid lifter ones. Also, can anyone reccomend a camshaft for a 55 265 now a 283 stick od 370 rear 1955 chevy 2dr sedan? Thanks for your info. Hostaking

I know that the slot in the rear journal of my '56 solid lifter cam is .045 deep. I don't know the dimensions of the slot in the hydraulic cam offhand, but it's much deeper than that. If no one else comes through, I can measure the one I've got sometime in the next day or two.

The 340 HP 327CI cam from GM is a good street mid-range power cam.
There is a chevy part number for it, and it's description would be similar, exc for the roller lifter, to the one on this page. Make sure you either pin or use screw-in rocker arm studs

Pink stripe 30-30 GM cam is pretty nasty but the earlier green stripe Duntov is better suited for small inch motors .
