    Hi HAMBers!!!
Went to troubleshoot my carb and the starter did not...start. The actuator/solenoid works, the battery (6V) is good, and the cables are good. Cleaned everything, inspected it, and put it back together for a bench test. Nothing is obviously broken (did not test every winding...). The gear pushed out and turned very slowly with 12V.

Any advice for another repair attempt at home?

Or do I get it rebuilt or find a new one (ugh: $300 CAD)?

Budget is (as always) a concern. Your advice (as always) is appreciated!!!

    1954 Pontiac Pathfinder 239ci 6 cyl. flathead, powerglide 2spd.

Was the car running before this happened? If anyone in your area has an armature tester(growler) get them to test the armature. How are the armature bushings? A really bad bushing will cause the armature to drag on the fields and really pull the starter down. How much is left of the brushes? Did the starter attempt to work at all in the car?
