Cables and grounds ancient, or undersized, corroded, loose? Don't let the smoke out. If starter is lunched that might do it too.

What gauge cables?? O minimum, OO better. 6V depends on current flow and tight grounds. If your starter and block are freshly painted, you might to run a dedicated ground or scrape some paint. Is this a stomp to start or a fender/firewall mounted solenoid. Make sure your connections to both solenoid connections are clean and tight.

double oo yes good ground good connections
thinks its a stuck inline 6 flat head.
good solution to unstick the engine? put some diesel fluid in and let it sit.be in a garage for some 25 years and was told it was started but you know how that goes. im guessing it could break loose looks like been taken care of

  9. You might put in gear and rock it some. My '50 Buick broke loose that, sorta ,way. Was pulling it in the yard, using clutch /stuck engine for brake. Viola, no more stuck engine.

There is a dust cover inspection port on the bottom of the bell housing, remove it and see if the engine will move by levering the flywheel with a pry bar on the ring gear. I wonder if maybe the Bendix is stuck and jammed.

will do and report back on both remedies

  12. Diesel in each cylinder, get the crank moving a little, more diesel, let it soak overnight, try moving it a little bit each day. Drain the diesel/oil , refill with new oil, then try starting it.

Been using a mix of atf acetone 50/50 on an old or I am trying to save. Pretty effective so far. Sounds like the starter was trying to turn the stuck motor and drawing a lot of amps and getting hot.
