anybody ever have issues with a 54 Chev starter (6 volt) failing irregularily... My friend has a 54 chev that was converted to 12 volt and it still runs a 6 volt starter. It starts good sometimes, then gives grief after getting wet or cold, seems to stick and just click the solenoid. He has taken it off and put it in the house for the night to warm it up and then put it back on and it works. yet in the summer when he had this issue he took it off and opened it up and cleaned all contacts and it still didnt help it. Sometimes it goes sometimes not. It has a new starter as of last summer and now doesnt work again. Any ideas?

You may need to change the solinoid.. Just converted my sons to 12 volt and had the 6volt rebuilt and solinoid replaced.. Works like a champ.. John

I had similar problems with mine last year, an old mechanic said that the bushings might be too worn. I replaced mine so I don´t know if that was the problem or not.
