Will the 1954-55 Cadillac hubcaps fit a standard offset 15 x 6" GM wheel?

if they are like the 56 cap it takes a 3 1/2 in offset wheel which is why you don't see them used as much as the 57 cap. it's to bad imo there a better lookin cap than the 57

Yes they will fit. They just take a standard offset. The 56 cap takes a deep offset

I'm thinking that the 54/55 caps won't grip on a lot of non 54/55 Cad rims because the lip doesn't roll over enough to hold them. They grip the outer lip out next to the tire and not down inside like most caps do. There were other Cad caps that mounted that way that you have to use special made or Cadillac wheel weights on so the cap will stay on. 54 Caddy cap.jpg

  7. What Mr 48 Chev said.....some early full wheel caps needed the nipple or roll over on the wheel to hold the cap....some earlier full wheel caps still were stuck on by the clips in the center..still like Tri 5 chevies.....why so many caps leave and go rolling down the street....early Caddie and Buicks were beasts........

Mine is mounted on a 15 x 5 w/3" backspace. No problem on a Summit steel rim.

Exactly. You may luck out and have rims they will fasten on tight to and stay on and you may loose all four off the car before you get to the closest burger joint in town. It all depends on if they will grip the wheel you put them on tight enough.
I'd think that might be the primary reason you don't see the used more.

    1. The rim outer on the Cad had a 'curl' to it...the caps had many (about 60?) fingers that sprung into that final 'curl'.
    2. The design of the Cad wheel had the center appearing to be backward, (the center being concave, rather than convex)
Thus, if a Cad outer rim were welded onto a different (your) center, and 'inset', (so a positive offset wheel was resultant, the center of your hub wouldn't contact the hub cap and 'push' it off with any wheel distortion (going up and down driveways with wheels slightly turned, etc.)
I did lots of that stuff in the '50s, and my '46 had '56 Caddy Sombreros. (same wheels bought with caps, I was determined! My '46 Ford wheel centers got welded to the Cad rims, inset 1/2"...all for Caddy Caps!)

I had them on my 51 Chevy that had stock rims. Never had an issue.

I remember how hard those fifties Cady wheel covers were to get off..

The popular wheel covers in my time was the Chevrolet SS spinner..
