I started this 6 years ago. August 26th I took her out for a shakedown run. She didn't come home on a tow truck so I guess we did good. 368 Lincoln, .040 over, isky cam, balanced, big block mustang top loader trans, 9" ford, truck arm rear suspension, wieght jacks all 4 corners, 4 wheel disc.
Are those pics photo shopped? The red trim is BRIGHT against that light color. The rims and tires look a little wrong for a custom. If it's a custom. Looks kinda "pro-street" or muscle carish. Hub caps might help, if they'll fit. Congrats on getting her goin'.
Not photo shopped, just bright ass viper red. Not a custom, working towards La Carrera clone/canyon runner.
Nice to see someone doing a 53 Lincoln!!! The 368 is the best of the breed. The top loader is interesting. Suspension? Who cares, as long as it sits right. My only issues, and this is strictly a personal opinion,.. If it were mine, I'd lose the wide ass tires and wheels and go with something a little more period looking. But that's not meant as a criticism, just personal preference. I'd love to go for a ride and feel that 368 show who's boss. A REAL hot rod Lincoln!
Not what I was expecting, and bad ass to boot! Congrats, that thing will be a blast Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I've always loved the '53...very cool cars. And, they did win some road races back in that time period...had the Press Releases to prove it. Some have forgotten that in the ensuing years, because it's usually the Merc's from that era that receive the custom treatment...more of them too. Good luck with yours ! If I owned my very own private road course out in the back 40, I'd build a Lincoln just like that one to carve it up! Any more pics?
Very Cool Car....and I love the theme! Powerful and handles like a slot car...that's the ticket! Always loved the Lincolns from that era. Congrats. Ray
Very cool, it all looks right to me. Somebody told me the original pan am cars ran ford truck motors, of course all gone thru by Clay Smith and Bill Stoppe.
I never heard anything about truck motors but I read they tore them down and blueprinted them. I also read that they would build heavy duty parts for the race and Lincoln would put them in the parts books as export only parts so they would be legal to run on the La Carrera cars. A couple years ago Stroppe and Ford parted ways, they had a large shop in Paramount, Ca. that Bills son Willie was still running. They were liquidating everything. I, and RBRoadster on here went and met Willie and he gave us a tour of the shop and what was left for sale. I purchased all his Ford 9" inventory, stuff from thier offroad and Nascar trucks. At the end Willie took us into his Dads (Bills) office and let us look around. It was like a museum in there, helmets, experimental parts and tons of photographs an the walls and up and down the hallways. It was a real treat and I can say that my Lincoln is running a Stroppe prepared 9" locker
Thanks for displaying your group of more detailed pictures of your '53 hardtop. I sold my '53 convertible about 4 years ago and seeing your picture gave me a bad case of sellers remorse. keep up the good work on your Lincoln. I love everything you've done to it. Build it loud, low, and fast!
I remembering reading about the Lincolns running in the mexican road races during that era.... The National Auto Museum in Reno has a nice one on display. 4TTRUK
As I remember it, the Lincoln motor was a 317 Y block and the Ford truck was a 358 Y and nearly identical in appearance, a few years ago I spoke with Crawfords navigator and he was telling me the auto trans shifted out of second at 85 mph. Chrysler and Ford were certainly rivals and both producing export models. Are you planning a roll cage for your car?
The Lincoln Y came in 317, 341, 368, and the truck motor came in 302, 332, and I think a 279. I know the 332 truck motor has the same stroke as a 368 but a forged crank. Not sure on the interior yet, cage or no cage. I'm just happy to drive it right now and work some bugs out
Your car reminds me of Dick Andersons "Carrera shock Lincoln" except yours dosen't have 750hp and with Anderson driving his car was a shock.
I tryed to find photos of the Carrera shock Lincoln on the net, no luck. all my pictures burned in the high park fire. there was a stock car racing magazine article in 1995, the car was destroyed at the Pikes Peak hill climb in 1997
nice Linc Cornernfool ! did you keep the stock power steer box ? have you had to C notch the frame above rear axle ?
