Okay so I obtained A left and a right hood hinge. Both of them are in excellent condition. I have had a bunch of 53 and 54 Fords, but always lucked out and had spare is laying around. First question I have is comparing them side-by-side it appears that one spring is unwound one rotation. So what is the best method to rewind it. Second question I have is one of the pivot pins on the front hinge appears to be halfway sheared off inside the airbox. So what would be the best method to repair the pin? thanks ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379546231.417734.jpg

I would just use it if you are wanting to stay original... I think winding springs is one of those things that if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

That said, if you make a tool that encases the spring on all sides with an opening for the hook end to stick out and put a long enough lever on it-- you could walk around it and hook it again. Make sure its bolted to a tree stump or something. Just an idea???

I get the flocisofuvhsfov, but what is SMH?

  8. Please post what you end up doing. I have one sheared off on my '54 and I was trying to figure out what to do...just replace both hinges with something else or try to find a good hinge. I haven't even started to look for parts yet but my thoughts tonight as I surveyed the situation were...they probably all look like the one I have.

As far as the spring winding I got a few ideas floating around. But the pin issue I have yet to figure away out that I am satisfied with. I thought of some fixes but I don't feel welding the pin from the inside or using some type of shoulder bolt would please me. I like things done right lol

    SMH....Shaking my Head

I've got a set of junk ford hinges sitting in my driveway on my '54. Seems like they're all garbage.
The ones you've got here look 100x better than mine tho.

Well here's what I ended up doing about the hinge pin. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379863755.764466.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379863771.197615.jpg
I found this carriage style bolt at work. But the shoulder on it is round instead of square. And fit perfect in the pin hole.

Still trying to figure out how to wind this spring

Have 2 52's 1 56. I bought NOS hinges for the 56, no springs. Can you install springs? What finishes are available? $ USA or Canada? I was planning on sending hinges from one 52 for refurbishment, your deal is more attractive to me.

    Cheers Don Howard

Several folks on 1954ford.com are also wondering when you will "Git "Er Done" so they can plunk down the cash.

Ok guys here is the scoop for the 52-54 ford hood hinges. I have finally dialed these in and I tell ya I am very pleased and I think you will be too. I have had to push back the date a few times due to having to make changes to get these right. I have test fitted these several times and have finally got everything right. These are now being produced and I promise they will be available late November early December. Ill keep you guys posted.

Hey just thought I'd give an update on the hood hinges. We are running production as we speak. Manufacture informed me that we should have them by February.
    Thanks B
