1951 Mercury Coupe We're Working On.... Outside Window Moulding Fabrication

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldtimerodder72, Jul 26, 2009.

  1. The Merc's time at Keith Sim Metalcraft is coming to an end. All of the major modifications have been completed. The last 2 postings have seen the fabrication and installation of the engine and transmission. With those items out of the way, it's time to focus on the last major fabrication. The outside stainless steel mouldings had to be modified to reflect the changes in the roofline. Keith initially wasn't sure how he was going to make these mouldings up, but he eventually figure it out. I must say, these mouldings are a work of art unto themselves. Keith has more detailed photos of exactly how he made up these pieces which I will post when I get a copy. I will tell you this. It took 12 window mouldings to make the 4 that were needed for the car. Good thing we had spares.

    For those of you who may be joining us now, I'll post the links to the other threads recording the building of this car;

    I have once again decided to let the workmanship speak for itself. I will not be posting any comments with the pictures.

    Here ladies and gentleman are the completed and fitted mouldings, enjoy;

    This photo shows all the remaining bits of the 12 outside mouldings that were used to make the 4 pieces.

    The next post will deal with the modification and fitting of the side trim. Then it will be time to go over the whole car and make any minor corrections or changes before it is shipped off for paint. There might be the fabrication of some exhaust manifolds in there as well.

    I'm also going to try to squeeze in a visit to a studio for some photographs in bare metal........

    The frame will be coming back to JDH Rod & Custom so that we might start to plumb the fuel and brake lines, get the rear end, engine, and transmission rebuilt. Then it will be time to detail and paint the other chassis components before reassembly.

    There's lots more to come on the road to the Detroit Autorama 2010, so stay tuned..........
